Input on birthday party food

I need to switch gears to something less stressful (if only slightly)!

Lanna's birthday party is this Saturday, and I've given it almost no thought! We get 3 hrs of party time, 2 in a tumbling gym and 1 in the "party room." The party goes from 1:00-4:00.

Would you have lunch right at 1 and then 2 hours of play, or play first then eat? And if you didn't eat till 3, what would you serve? It's sort of an odd time for eating (not really lunch, not really dinner).

Re: Input on birthday party food

  • I personally think 1 is late for lunch. I would expect to eat before I went to a 1:00 party- so I honestly think cake, icecream or cookies with drinks would be enough. And then use the rest of that hour for present opening or something.

  • I think with a 1pm start time, most people would eat and feed their kids before coming.  I think you can get away with doing cake and maybe small snacks (like individual bags of goldfish or pretzels or something) at 3pm.  Maybe a veggie and fruit tray for the adults, too.

Ditto. We just went to a bday party that started at 1. I assumed just snacks and so we ate beforehand. But they did have appetizers and pizza and cake. Pizza was later than they expected at like 4. It was just really odd time for food!

    agree!

  • Yeah, we were just going to get pizzas, but I'm worried they'll go to waste. I like the idea of snacky stuff, as long as it doesn't require much preparation/planning. I also worried about the kids eating and then tumbling. We don't want anyone getting sick!

    My three sons!

  • Hi:

Kids don't eat much at parties anyways.  I agree with everyone else.  Snacks and cake and ice creamonly.  More time to tumble/play and plenty for cake and presents.
