Paris-looking for recommendations
Ok, first of all, what shoes should I wear next week in Paris? Is it still sandal season? I am thinking comfort but don't want to look totally unstylish.
Does anyone have any recommendations for restaurants, cafes or must sees? We are staying near Notre Dame.
We will only be there Thu-through Mon so we will not try and cram too much in. We have both been to Versailles before so we arent' doing that this time. I want to check out the Rodin museum and maybe the Orangerie museum. Do you think the museum pass is worth it?
Re: Paris-looking for recommendations
1. I saw people in flip-flops while there - non-Americans. I'd go for comfort all the way. I didn't and my feet got very angry with me.
2. The Museum Pass is awesome. It gets you tot the front of the lines. If you see a line, go tot eh front and there is usually a sign that says Museum Passes can go on in.
3. DH and I liked the Concierge and also Saint Chapel...they are right next to one another close to the River.
4. Climbing the towers of Notre Dame - amazing. We were up there when the bells rang. The museum pass does not work here. But the towers are free. The expereince beats the Eiffel Tower and the view is pretty similar.
Both the Rodin and L'Orangerie museums are fabulous! You will not be disappointed. Have you been to the Musee D'Orsay? Also worth the time.
As for restaurants/cafes, stay out of touristy regions and just pick a place at random. You can't go wrong with French cuisine. It's fairly expensive but worth it. Have crepes/sandwiches from street vendors/walk-up bakeries. Seriously, you can't go wrong!
Have fun! I'm heading back in March for a few days:)
Bon Voyage!
Francois Felix was great for lunch. A lot of locals dined there. I loved the nicoise salad at this place (and I ate a lot of nicoise salads in Paris). It is near the Vendome area.
Go to Cafe Constant for dinner!! They are by the Eiffel Tower and it was one of the best and most affordable meals we had! And true French food. It is a casual bistro so it was great for us after a long day of walking and sightseeing! Don't let the crowd waiting outside deter you. We didn't wait too long for a table.
A lot of women in flats and skinny pants. We are just leaving Paris today!! We are at the airport now. So you can't go wrong if you being comfortable flats and cute sneakers. I didn't see sandals (at least not on the Parisian women...maybe on the tourists)
Enjoy!!!
