Baltimore Nestie looking for 3 days of childcare

Hi all, I am coming to Pittsburgh in mid-October for work and then heading straight to my sister's bridal shower in Detroit. My 1 year old is also in the wedding and I want to bring him with me. Do you know of any centers or licensed providers who would accept a child for just 3 days? I need it to be a place by CMU.

What would you do if you were me? Thanks!!

  • I'm not sure of any drop in places near CMU but you may want to call or search the university to see what they have. Check the JCC in Squirrel Hill.  Otherwise, I would likely bring someone with me or find someone local (through your work?) that can watch him.  You may have better luck with that vs. a day care.

  • That's a hard one!

I think Carlow College has daycare programs, but I'm not sure if they do drop in things.  It wouldn't be super far from CMU.  Also, you could check to see if there was anything that the University of Pittsburgh has to offer.  (Also very close to CMU.)  For Google purposes, I would search for drop in day cares in the following areas:

    Oakland
    Greenfield
    Squirrel Hill
    Shadyside

Those are all reasonably close.  If you just google "Pittsburgh" you'll get places 15-20 miles away as a lot of municipalities use a Pgh mailing address.

I know there is a drop in childcare up here in Cranberry.  I have not used it but I have heard good things.  You'd be about 30 minutes away from CMU though.

    Good luck!

  • Does your work have emergency child care benefits? They might have a list of places.

I'd check and see if the big chains like kindercare or primrose have nearby facilities... maybe they would do it?  The JCC is a good idea, too, though I feel like you need to be a member.
