Moving to Pittsburgh

We are going to be moving from Atlanta to Pittsburgh before the end of the year. My husband will be working in Cranberry Township and I'll be working all the way downtown. We are trying to figure out the best place to live where we would both have decent commutes (30 minutes or less) and a good school district. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

the commute from Cranberry to Downtown isn't that bad at all. If you want somewhere in the middle, check out Franklin Park, Ohio Twp, Pine Twp/Wexford which are further south than Cranberry and have easy access to I-79 and are all in good school districts.

We live in Adams Township-Mars area. Commute to downtown isn't bad....depending on time of day. I have to be in early and it's 22 min garage to garage. We love it and couldn't imagine being anywhere else so we are building our forever home just a few blocks away. Butler county taxes are much cheaper! In Allegheny cry, Wexford, Pine, Sewickley Farms, Franklin Park are other options!

We're in Ross Township and we're right in the middle of both. Any of the districts in the area (North Hills, North Allegheny, Hampton, Pine Richland, Shaler) are very good. Good luck with the move!

The others gave you great advice. I live just across the Beaver County border in Economy (about 5 miles west of Cranberry) and I work downtown. It all depends on the time of day for the commute - if I leave the house by 6:30a, I'm in the office by 7:10a. If I leave Cranberry by 7:30 (mornings I have the morning routine with my sons), then it's around 8:30 that I'm in (though it feels like it takes me longer!). I leave the office at 4p and can be up in Cranberry (most days) by 4:25/4:30. I like our area because it's more affordable than Cranberry, however, it's Ambridge school district, which is not great (and the school taxes just went up). We are doing the parochial route, though, and the district does bus him the 12 miles to the school in Allegheny County. At the same time, with parental involvement, there are kids who do succeed and go on to great colleges and jobs from the district! Good luck with your move!!

There are a ton of communities b/w town and Cranberry - the others gave you the rundown. I live in Franklin Park and depending on which way I go I am 15-20 mins to town, same to Cranberry. Really I would look at the best commute for you b/c to town is where the traffic is not to/from Cranberry. You can also check out Sewickley area which is in Quaker Valley School District (smaller but very good). I am in NA which ranks very high but it is very large. Pine Richland is also good, not as big. North Hills is smaller but good. There aren't too many places you can go wrong b/c Cranberry and downtown. If you need info on specific neighborhoods let me know & I'll help if I can.

Welcome! We moved from Atlanta last year, and we've been very happy here. We live on the south side of town, so I can't help much, but I'd probaby pick somewhere in the North Allegheny school district if I lived north of town. There are several good school districts up that way though.

Congrats on the upcoming move! I'm in the north, in Ross Township (North Hills school district), and I'm really happy with our location. I love being in a quiet neighborhood, but so close to everything (including downtown). My son hasn't started kindergarten yet, but when we moved to this area, we chose it partly based on the school district, I was really happy with what I saw in our research of districts.

Avonworth is supposed to be an up and coming district. I think they are building a new school too.

I ditto Sewickley-20 min to downtown and under 20 to Cranberry. Great town, great school district, great shopping village. Ben Avon or Ben Avon Heights also adorable and that is the Avonworth school district, but I don't know much about it. Ben Avon is under 10 min from downtown and about 15 from Cranberry.
