just got a house with just about complete hardwood floors.....how do you clean yours? in the past i always found it ended up gritty and sticky
Re: hardwood floors
I was using the swifer wet clothes/ wet jet for little messes but then out Vet said that it is really bad for the dog so we stopped using it.
Now I use my shark steam mop and about once a month I get down on my hands and knees and use vinegar and water to really scrub them clean.
Ive heard the steam mops can be bad for hardwood-moisture can seep into the cracks and damage the flooring. I just use a damp mop and regular floor cleaner on mine and that's worked for six years. In the past I've lived in apts with wood floors and did the same.
My brother in law is a contractor and recommends spraying with a hardwood cleaner (like orange glow or something) and wiping with a sponge or sponge mop. I do this sometimes too but I think the other way works better for getting them really clean.
What kind do you use? (cleaner wise)
I have very shiney wood floors and EVERYTHING left streaks or a film. Swiffer, steam mop and a ton of different cleaners and kinds of mops (rag mop, sponge mop, rope type mop). Finally I tried Orange Glo Everyday cleaner with a dry microfiber mop and it cleans them and leaves them nice and shiney. I spray an area, then mop. Super easy and no bucket to fill then clean.

I have that mop and got it at Costco. I love that there is an extra pad, and I can just toss them into the wash.

I use murphy's oil or spic and span.
For all of you that use the Shark Steam Mop I have one but I can't get it to spray!! Of course DH threw out the instructions... and yes I have tried pressing the trigger button... Now it sits in my hall closets and does nothing! Did I miss something?
