St. Louis food & activity recs

We'll be in St. Louis, MO, for two days this weekend and are looking for good, local, affordable places to eat. (Affordable = entrees preferably $15 or less)

As for activities, my husband's already planned a Cardinals game, seeing the Arch (of course) and a river cruise. Beyond this, we're open to suggestion for other must-sees.

Any ideas?

Re: St. Louis food & activity recs

  • St. Louis has so many free things it's crazy!

Activities - Forest Park has the zoo (free!) and the Science Center (also free, I think).  City Museum is also really cool, but I believe there is an admission fee there, but still worth it!

Food - Anything on The Hill!  Some of my faves are Zia's, Favazza's, Mama Campisi's, and Modesto (although this is tapas, not Italian).

  • The zoo is free! There's a fee for parking but admission is free. You can do an Anheuser Busch brewery tour (free) and if you want something a little less mass produced, you can tour the Schlafly brewery (free) and then get something to eat on their patio. The Boathouse in Forest Park is a fun place to eat. The food is average but the setting is very cool. Other free stuff includes the Art Museum, History Museum and Science Center. All that is in Forest Park. I'm ashamed to say I've never been to the City Museum but apparently it is not to be missed.

  • Thank you both! We loved the Hill, and the location/atmosphere at The Boathouse was just perfect.
