Hi Ladies,
My name is Sue. I used to live in the Ambler area up until about 6 years ago, and then moved down south with my husband to Texas. We will probably be moving back in March to somewhere between the W. Chester/ Phoenixville/KOP area. I'm not too familiar with this area. I have a 3 1/2 year old son so I would love some recommendations on daycares (possibly mothers day outs, Im not sure if I'll be working yet or not) and Pediatricians, a Dr for my husband and myself. Also, how is the Phoenixville area? I have honestly never been there! Is it very family oriented?
Thanks so much!
Re: Intro
Welcome!
Phoenixville is a very popular area for young families. If you have any specific questions, let us know! The ladies on here pretty much know everything. We're all geniuses.
Thank you so much! As the time gets closer I will have more questions!
We're in p'ville and have a 2 year old son. We really enjoy it, only downside is no Septa train, so it's a haul sometimes. But there is so much to do in walking distance.
We go to Collegeville Family Practice, all three of us see the same doctor, which is really nice. This winter we were all super sick (we never had 2 weeks of wellness), and it was great since he knew our full history.
I don't think there are any mom's days out, but there are several daycares around that are well respected.
<-- been in the 'ville for 9 years. Love it. We just sold our first house and moved 7 blocks away b/c we love the town so much. Lots of events going on and the downtown has seen revitalization in recent years (despite the bad economy). That said, there's still work to be done.
Pluses: Great mix of housing stock, affordable housing stock, excellent year-round farmer's market, strong community involvement (with many options to get involved), the YMCA is just outside of the borough--it's huge--and has lots of options for wee ones. There are many free events held throughout town: Firebird Festival, Halloween Parade, Blues Festival, Dogwood Fair/Parade.
Negatives: you can encounter an old v. new mindset (as in, the older generations that experienced the closure of the steel mill versus the "yuppies."), but it doesn't permeate the entire borough. +1 about limited options to get into the city, but there is a bus that takes you to the Paoli train station during 7a-8a and 4:30p-5:30p. Traffic can be bad, depending upon where you are commuting to.
