Home and mold inspectors - names anyone?

Can you give me the name and number of your home or mold inspectors if you liked them?  If you know someone to avoid feel free to chime in.

If you could provide home many years you have been in the house problem free from the inspection that would be great too.

Re: Home and mold inspectors - names anyone?

  • Matt did our home inspection on our recent purchase and we were really happy with working with him and the report he provided us. Most of the issues we had post move-in were related to the previous owner moving out a month early and turning off the water. (dripping faucets, leaking toilets) And a little bad luck too. But nothing that Matt should have picked up. http://www.brickkicker.com/Locations/OurOffices/TheBrickKickerofPittsburgh.aspx

Then to sell our previous home we had a minor crack in the foundation that caused some drama. We had Russ come out and get that cleared up as he is also a structural engineer. http://www.threeriversinspection.com/ Again, we had a very good experience in working with him as well.

We had neither property tested for any mold issues.

  • We used Alltech (Tom) when we bought our house 6 years ago. There haven't been any "issues" come up that we didn't know about beforehand. We actually used him as well on the first house we put an offer on. He actually found a couple of things that made us walk away from that house.

  • Troy Cochenour at Pittsburgh Environmental Services (412) 980-7745 . He uses a new product that is really effective! He just did our house and it only took 3 hours for some MAJOR mold. We are waiting to hear back from the secondary tests, but arrows point to all clear. He's really easy to work with and it extremely well priced because the product is much better than what they used to use.
  • I should also mention that he is Mold Inspection Consulting and Remediation Organization certified which was good to know.

He also did our home inspection for a house we bought two years ago. We don't have any problems!

  • For our home inspection this summer, we used Tim Raufer at VB Inspect ( http://www.vbinspect.com/ ).  We didn't have a mold concern and I'm not so sure they do mold inspections.

He was incredibly thorough and professional.  He found cracks/movement in the basement wall that previous inspectors completely overlooked (we were not the first people to place an offer).  I would recommend Tim in a heartbeat.

  • We loved Scott Kelly from Cornerstone Home Inspection.  He's everything you'd want in an inspector - thorough, knowledgeable, - and this is important for me as a non-mechanical person, easy to talk to and understand.  We've been here almost 8 years.
