Shower Gifts...use them yet?
So...who's used their new appliances? Any meals or recipe ideas you'd like to share?
So far, I've made my own pizza dough in my Kitchenaid stand mixer and my own sauce for pizza. I just got all the ingredients to make my own mozzarella, so I'll have to add that to the pizza.
We also have some appliances we haven't even gotten to try yet (soup maker/blender, rice cooker, crock pot, tons of attachments for the mixer, there's probably more).
How's cooking going in your newlywed life and does your DH take part in the cooking? I'd say we're about even, unless I feel like making something new or homemade because I'm home earlier.
Re: Shower Gifts...use them yet?
We made ice cream in the Kitchenaide... he had the mixer before we met.. just got the attachement though. Now I'm excited to try making pizza dough,
We haven't used the deep fryer, cheese board, or turkey pan.. but almost everything else we have. Next week is the BBB registry completion so we're going to use our gift cards and get the dishes we wanted.
I used to cook a lot more, but DH gets done work before I do so he's usually cooking before I get home
LOL I didn't even follow the "rule" to not use your shower gifts before the wedding. I had never heard that before & when I read it for the first time on the knot it was too late lol - oh well!
Anyway I'm so jealous - the kitchen aide was the one thing I DIDN'T get! But we're going to use the registry completion thing to get that soon. My favorite thing so far has got to be the PUR filter for the faucet. We had a BRITA before but it was so annoying to refill & took up so much space in the fridge, so we are LOVING the PUR filter. We also got the NINJA blender & food processor, which we haven't tried yet but are excited to - perfect timing too because our old blender just broke!
We got a pressure cooker too but I think we are going to return it and get a crock pot instead - I was under the impression they were similar, and just found out they aren't and I prefer the crock pot.
Cooking is pretty much my forte, because I'm better at it & because I get home first. But H does cook on the weekends sometimes. Since we are newly married though, I'm trying to experiment with cooking and get a collection of recipes together (I like that). It's also hard because H is EXTREMELY PICKY but we've decided that every Friday, I can make WHATEVER I wanted and he HAS to atleast try it. So maybe his tastes will expand? I hope so!
Hahaha Nessa, I unpacked all my shower gifts immediately after the shower! The only reason I haven't used a bunch of them yet is for no good reason at all. Now that all the wedding details are done, I am spending more time trying to make use of this stuff.
We are going to break in our crock pot tomorrow with a recipe I just found on Pinterest. DH will be breaking it in, I mean, lol! Beef and broccoli with rice, yum!
We have been using some of the gifts well before the wedding, and by some, I am referencing the KitchenAid mixer. That is by far the best present we got! We have used it (along with the ice cream attachment) a couple of times already to make coconut ice cream. It has been a welcomed treat for the summer months.
I finally just broke into our Calphalon cookware that my parents got us as a wedding gift. I can't believe that I waited this long to use it! At least it makes the cooking in the house more enjoyable, since DH although he does a lot around the house, manages to distance himself from all forms of cooking.
DH has used our waffle maker a few times! We mix it up together but he actually cooks them (he was soo excited to get the waffle maker, he loves it)! We've also used our panini maker to make some of our favorite sandwiches from Perkins (saves us some $$$).
We've also used our cutting boards
They aren't appliances but I still love them!
We haven't used our surprise gift yet (one we didn't register for but are excited about), which is a triple buffet server & food warmer.
Cooking is going well, we have been sharing our responsibilities, and are even considering using an idea from his coworker to make sure we keep it even (we both like cooking). The idea is to divide the monthly calendar into "his night, her night, our night" for cooking, and stick to it! I think we're going to sit down and divide the calendar up tonight
We will be sharing the cooking responsibility tonight, he's grilling prime rib (I think) and I'll be making mixed veggies and garlic baked potatoes
WE are house hunting so hubby (ah!) and I decided not use them until we find a place and move. They are all packed in nice boxes ,and It means cleaning out our kitchen and trying to find space in our tiny apartment kitchen for just a few months.
the only gift I've used is my salad spinner which is AWESOME.
