Jamiedoll

Hey I wanted to ask how the food for Aisling's party went over.  I can't seem to make a freaking decision over what to serve.  Can you tell me what you served and what worked/didn't work?

Thanks and I hope you're feeling well!

Re: Jamiedoll

  • Hey!  We wound up doing a kind of hodgepodge of stuff.  We had tomato pie- which actually did not go over well, but did hold up well in the heat...I think our particular crowd just wasn't a tomato pie crowd.

Other than that, we had steak sandwiches (picked up at Slack's and cut into smaller pieces) that went really fast- I never even got one.  We just had them on a tray, no warmer or anything.

A friend of mine helped me out and did mac & cheese, chicken fingers, and hot dogs and put that all in sterno heating dish things.  The food tasted good, but due to wind, we had trouble keeping the little fire things lit so it didn't stay as warm as I would have liked.

We also had pasta salad (non-mayo), and fruit kabobs, neither of which really moved very fast, though I was darn proud of my effort on the kabobs (they were Muppet Rainbow Connection Fruit Kabobs with a Kermit apple face cutout I stole from Pinterest), and we put out chips and soft pretzels with dip (always a big crowd pleaser).  We did have cake and cupcakes for dessert, and because of heat wound up speeding to that part of the afternoon to try to get things given out before melting.

So, overall, our food selection went over well, minus the tomato pie and fruit- our biggest challenge was really the heat/wind.  Hopefully heat won't affect you in October, at least!  Good luck planning- I can't believe V is gonna be 1!

  • Thank you!  The plan now is chicken nuggets, pretzel tray, salad, homemade pizzas and a deli tray.  Steak sandwiches are a fantastic idea though!

I'm glad her party went well!!  These kids are growing too fast!
