Hi and CONGRATS all!
So I was using our new tea-infusing pitcher today, and I was thinking about how lucky we are to have such generous friends and family- we received a bunch of fun kitchen things, and I'm having a great time using them all. So now I'm curious- what was your favorite gift? Did anyone get something off-registry that they turned out loving?
Re: Favorite gift?
Oh and I was really excited to get a Dyson!
Now we wish we had registered for All-Clad pots and pans and more knives. I guess that's why we have a registry completion discount!
Our favorite wedding gift was one we didn't register for...
My MOH got us a wooden sign that says
The (ournewlastname)
Est. 2012
in beautiful cursive, and it matches the decor in our house. It's a wonderful, thoughtful gift.
Alicia, that sounds gorgeous. Very thoughtful of your MOH (:
jmlee, the Keurig sounds like fun! Can you use a registry completion discount to get the KitchenAid as a gift to yourselves?
My most favorite gift was definitely not on the registry. I think I enjoyed it so much because it was completely from the heart.
SIL as her gift, put together a weekend package to take us back to Newport, RI, where DH and I were engaged. It includes a bed and breakfast, dinner, a helicopter tour of the area, and gift certs to get cupcakes at a small place we stopped at just to call everyone at home and tell them the good news. It was wholly unexpected and the best thing ever.
She also gave us a metal box and inside the cover was attached this story:
The Metal Box
Last weekend, we celebrated my parents? fiftieth wedding anniversary. This morning, they left on a long awaited trip to Hawaii. They were as excited as if it were their honeymoon.
When my parents married, they had only enough money for a three-day trip fifty miles from home. They made a pact that each time they made love, they would put a dollar in a special metal box and save it for a honeymoon in Hawaii for their fiftieth anniversary.
Dad was a policeman, and Mom was a schoolteacher. They lived in a modest house and did all their own repairs. Raising five children was a challenge, and sometimes money was short, but no matter what emergency came up, Dad would not let Mom take any money out of the ?Hawaii account?. As the account grew, they put it in a savings account and then bought CDs.
My parents were always very much in love. I can remember dad coming home and telling Mom, ?I have a dollar in my pocket,? and she would smile at him and reply, ?I know how to spend it.?
When each of us children married, Mom and Dad gave us a small metal box and told us their secret, which we found enchanting. All five of us are now saving for our dream honeymoons. Mom and Dad never told us how much money they had managed to save, but it must have been considerable because when they cashed in those CDs they had enough for airfare to Hawaii plus hotel accommodations for ten days and plenty of spending money.
As they told us goodbye before leaving, Dad winked and said, ?Tonight, we are starting an account for Cancun. That should only take twenty-five years.?
Inside the box, was a dollar, pinned with a little note, that said to cover your first night as newlyweds.
By far my most favorite gift of all.
My favorite gift that we got was our bedding. We absolutely love it! It is a DKNY duvet set from Bed Bath and Beyong in a charcol grey with ruffles. It is gorgeous in our room and so comfy!
My favorite item that we got that was not on our registy was our two pumpkins scentys. I am a big fall/halloween nut and love that we got the wall plug in and full size scentsy!
My Planning Bio - Update 8/5/12
MrsChaos,
That sounds awesome! Except I would't want to know their secret for what they had to do to put a dollar in each time. TMI for me! lol
We got lots of great gifts that weren't on our registry. H's best man got us each a small plot of land (like 1 square foot or something) in Scotland. If you are a Scottish landowner, you have the title of "Lord" or "Lady". So he gave us these framed certificates that show how we are now a lord and lady. It makes me laugh because it is so unique.
H's grandma also gave us a piece of china that her grandma gave to her on her wedding day, so it is really neat that she gave us a family heirloom like that.
CallMeMrsChaos, that sounds like such a sweet and thoughtful gift. Looks like you've married into a very caring family.
Mrs Chaos - Oh my gosh, I must be in a sappy mood today. This just about made me cry at my desk just now. The metal box idea was so sweet. What a wonderful idea.
My favorite gift is borting compared to that - we got one of those photo name signs that are the letters of your name in black and white photos of different things. For example the A in our last name was a church steeple etc. It was really cool, and since we hardly have anything on our walls we were really excited to have something really nice to hang up too!
H and I bought each other Invisalign braces for each other! The gift of straight teeth!
We eloped, but we still are getting gifts from people (cash or gift cards).
