9/11, 11 years later

Thought I would do a separate post for this. Any thoughts or comments anyone want to share.

I remember being woken up by hearing my Mom's voice on the answering machine saying that we've been attacked. I ran downstairs and turned the TV on just into to see the 2nd plane hit. I was still half asleep and remember thinking wow they got it on tape as it happened, I hadn't realized that the 1st tower had already been it until a few minutes later.

  • I'm not going to lie...I try not to think so negatively about today.  It's my sister's birthday, and while a what happened was a complete tradgedy and will be with most of us forever, she deserves to have some happiness and smiles on her birthday.

  • I think that is awesome. Happy Birthday to Sister Wop
  • Happy birthday to your sister TW. I feel bad for those who have birthdays, anniversaries etc on 9/11 because the world is so focused on the attacks.I hope your sister enjoys her birthday.

I was in my first semester of college, and was coming from a class. I went to the library and saw the second plane hit. I wondered what movie they had on.

My dad was dropping my brother off at hi college in NJ. I was scared and upset because his school was close to NY.

  • I was at work meeting with my boss, when my assistant came in and told us that a plane had struck a building in New York. We were like, "that's weird." When the second one hit we knew something was up so we turned on the TV in the break room. People wanted to go get their kids from school. My mom wanted me to go home but I was like seriously? There are way more interesting targets for terrorists than Grand Rapids :-)
  • I remember the morning well. I was a senior in HS and one of my teachers was running down the hall stopping in each room telling the teachers to turn the tvs on - an plane had just hit one of the towers. We watched the second one hit. It was a strange, strange day. My uncle was actually supposed to be at the Pentagon for a meeting that day (his is/was in the Air Force - top secret spy stuff (really) - we don't know what he does) but they changed the location of the meeting at the last minute (kinda strange if you ask me given his line of work).

I friend of mine teaches elementary school and she said that they would talk about it each year and what the kids thought, but now the kids don't really know what happened as they weren't even born yet. In time, sadly, this too will just be a date in the history books.

Happy Birthday to your sister, TW. I do feel bad for those who share this day as a special day for them.
