Nap schedules

Curious what the average nap schedule is for around 9 months... for the past two months DD has been napping about 2 hours after getting up (for around 1 hr, 15 min) and then again 2-3 hours later for the same length of time.  Unfortunately, this means that she finishes her naps by 12 or 1pm and its a long, long afternoon for the both of us.  She gets really tired and fussy around 3, but refuses to nap, though she will sometimes pass out in the car.

Lately it looked like she might push her second nap to about 2pm, which would be great, but then there are days like today where she's rubbing her eyes and goes down by 10:30.  I know every baby is different, but I'm just curious what other babies around her age are doing nap-wise.  Thanks!

Re: Nap schedules

  • When dd was that age, she was taking a morning and an afternoon nap.  The morning one was around 9-9:30 and the afternoon one was somewhere between 12-1.  The morning nap was about an hour and the afternoon one was a max of 2.  She was definitely cranky by the end of the day.

  • My son has been doing pretty much the same routine for months.  This is just the weekends though because he doesn't usually sleep as much at daycare.  FWIW he's 11 months now.  He will wake up and have a bottle, about an hour to an hour and a half after the bottle, he has breakfast.  Then usually within half an hour he's rubbing his eyes and will zonk out for up to two hours.  Then it's basically the same routine again.  Bottle after nap, lunch an hour or so later, afternoon nap.  Except his afternoon nap usually ends up being no longer than an hour.  Then bottle, dinner and then we start the bed time routine.
  • At that age, DS was usually napping about 10-12 and then again 3:30ish to 5:30ish.

He has always been a champion napper though.  Once he moved to one a day, it is regularly a three hour snoozefest at least.

  • Two months ago Hunter was waking up at 5:30 and then going down for a nap around 7-8:30.  He would usually nap again around 11 or 11:30 for a half hour.  He usually wouldn't nap after that and went to bed around 6 or 6:30.

Right now he wakes up the same time, but the 7am nap has gone the way of the dodo bird, and he'll go down at 10:15 on the nose.  This usually lasts until about 11:30 and I don't know if he naps after that.

  • My mom always reminds me how I never slept. She was lucky if I slept 2 hours a day total.  Bless her heart!   I hope the kid doesn't take after me lol.

  • I believe DS had his first nap around 10:00, then his next one after lunchtime (maybe 1-2ish?). We never let him sleep past 4:00, because he went to bed at 7:00.

  • Thanks for the feedback! Sounds like she's on par with others.  I'm glad she naps!
