College Care Package?

So, my cousin that was in my wedding is now a freshman in college. I want to send her a care package, but I was a freshman like 10 years ago and totally forget what I liked then.

I'm thinking some food gift cards, snacks, and fun pens. What else did you guys like/think would be fun to send?

Re: College Care Package?

  • My mom used to send me decorations from the dollar store to put up in dorm...like Halloween. Also, if she far from home maybe something you can only get in her home...my aunt sent me a case of Wawa ice tea once and I was the popular kid in the dorm.

  • I remember my brother and SIL sent me a care package when I was a freshman way back when and it was awesome- it had a bunch of snack foods, a couple fun magazines (Cosmo, etc...), I think it had some cute Halloween decorations, and some other things that I don't remember 8 years later.  I remember really liking the treats and magazines :)  She'll be so surprised/happy to get a package that really it doesn't matter too much what's in it.  If there's like a starbucks or coffee shop around, that would be a good idea too!

  • Things that will remind her of home...when I was in school 2000 miles from home my mom sent me one of the art projects my homeschooling sister had made for school...(she was in grade 4 at the time) and thats what I remember the most.

Other things that made me so happy was tea (only if your cousin actually drinks tea) and walmart gift cards (so I could choose if I wanted to get something fun, or if we had run out of necessities like tp or toothpaste).

    Candy was always exciting too.

  • Love the ideas in PPs!...  Also, a cute coffee mug if she drinks coffee or tea, some fun stationary, and packets of hot chocolate mix.

  • GIFT CARDS!!! I will never be able to stress that enough. Also snacks, decorations are good. Stuff from home including pictures. Music or magazines! Also you could do things like toothpaste and deodorant so that she won't have to buy them at the store for a while. Stuffed animal or a blanket something to cuddle with when she misses home.
  • a picture of you guys at your wedding to hang up in her room, you can put candy on a stick and make a bouquet in a coffee mug, on a stick can be instant coffee, coco, tea whatever she drinks.  Gift cards are always good, just make sure that store is in the area she is going to school. Decorations was always fun to have in my door room.

  • Love the decoration ideas. Also--school supplies. As silly as that sounds, she is going to be realizing she is going to need computer paper, pens, ink (especially ink) and she is going to run out. Send her a few office necessities and she'll love you forever.

Also--gift cards. Look at what might be accessible off campus. I would recommend restaurants so she can get a break from campus food as well as clothing shops now that the weather is getting colder.

  • I agree with all of the above. A gift card to almost anywhere - grocery store, Walmart/Target, clothing store, restaurant/fast food, somewhere to get her oil changed if she has a car. Basically anything that can safe her money!

If it's feasible to send apples/oranges - in college the school would coordinate care packages around exam time and my Mom always bought one that had apples and oranges in it. The fresh fruit was a HUGE hit!

  • I think you can't go wrong with food like candy, and maybe homemade banana bread or cookies, gas gift card, and I agree with PP about the dollar store for dorm decorations.
