Daycare recs in South Hills
Can any of you South Hills ladies recommend your day care? I am expecting my first in January and will need daycare come August. I live in Baldwin and work downtown, but am willing to look at other recs in the south hills, as I can drive to the T for work. Thanks!
Re: Daycare recs in South Hills
Hi, our first house was in Baldwin too, south of rt 51. We looked at both Tender Care and Tutor Time (down by Caste Village) when we were looking for daycare. I was happy with both but I liked Tutor Time's play spaces and layout better. So we went with that one. My daughter is almost 5 now. Through the years there has been a lot of turnover in the center. But I think some of that is pretty common. A few of my favorites have left but I hear the infant room teacher is really great (from some of my daughters friends mom's who have a second child in that space). I usually dropped her off and then caught the trolley at Memorial Hall station. It was quite convenient.
I also heard good things about the center that is along Hamilton Rd- Sisters of St Francis http://www.osfprov.org/fcdcc.asp. Our old neighbor's sister sent her kids there.
(Thumbs up! Chrome doesn't like TN's smileys)
We also go to Tutor Time and love it! The infant teacher has been there for about a year now and she is fantastic. My son adored her.

I had a list like yours for the South Hills and we ended up choosing Franciscan Child Day Care Center. It is a wonderful place and my daughter has such a pleasant experience. We've been there 4 months (part-time 3 days a week). We were big on having staff that had a lot of experience and most of the teachers there are grandmothers (feels like family).
We also love how much outdoor space there is for kids. It is located on a beautiful and large campus. We often see deer there. They have a nice playground outside. My daughter goes on walks in the stroller weekly. Their prices are listed on the website at $910 a month
The other places we toured were (with my notes):
- Creative Minds Learning Center - the only place for kids to play outdoors was on Astroturf. They don't take kids (even babies) on walks. The staff was fairly young and limited area for play for infants.
- Brass Ring Learning Center (bethel) - all the kids are in one room and not separated out. We walked out on the tour.
- Tutor Time (bethel) - Didn't have a good first impression. Director was late and felt more like an institution. Not as personable as the other places.
- Tender Care Learning Center - Due to alleged accusations against a male teacher at a Tender Care Center for child molestation in Scott Township, eliminated all Tender Care Learning Centers. Feel that company as a whole knew that teacher was a concern and did not address.
-->Thanks,
