I'm Still Sick :(

All of you ladies were super helpful on the knot so I figured I'd reach out to you here. I've been sick ever since the wedding on August 18th. So far I've been to the doctor 3x and then I saw a gastroenterologist. The best guess is that I may have celiac sprue. The blood test for celiac came back negative and I can't afford the endoscopy and colonoscopy tests to determine if I actually have celiac. I've been eating gluten free for 4 days and I don't feel any better. I've been taking ondansetron because it helps with nausea and appetite but I'm only treating symptoms rather than the illness. I'm planning to contact a naturopathic doctor next but I'm starting to feel hopeless.

Any other suggestions? If anyone here has celiac could you tell me what it was like for you and how long before you felt better?

Re: I'm Still Sick :(

  • I don't have celiac, but one of my best friends does, and another has a different severe gluten allergy.  Their eating abilities are actually very different.  Make sure everything you are eating really is gluten free, and that it is not cross-contimatined.  If someone uses a knife to spread peanut butter on bread and you use that knife to spread it on an apple, if you have a high sensitivity, you will feel the effects.  All I'm saying is that you might somehow still be exposing yourself to gluten.  Unfortunately doctors can be unhelpful in these situations, and I've found a lot of progress is due to your own persistency.  But stay determined, and I hope you feel better soon and find a resolution to the confusion.
