Ladies who have had your gallbladder out
How did you feel in the days after? I'm having mine out next Wednesday and am trying to plan out meals for the couple of days after. Since I'm not sure what I'll feel like, I'm having a hard time! Would I be up for dumping stuff in the crockpot at least? Or is it better to maybe make some items to put in the fridge for DH to warm up? It's being done laprascopically, if that helps. TIA!
Re: Ladies who have had your gallbladder out
Don't have any advice, but so sorry you have to have surgery
Hope you have a speedy recovery!
Oh, and let me know if there is anything I can do for you since I'm "in the area".
I had mine out a long time ago, but I was very sore for the first few days after. I pretty much just laid on the couch and watched TV. It was hard to move into a sitting or standing position from laying down for the first 2-3 days without help.
I would think that you might not feel up for putting things in the crockpot the first day home, but will probably be fine on day 2+.
My soreness was really similar to my recovery from the c-section, except that I had no fear of ripping something open.
I would plan for DH to handle dinner at least for the first day and maybe again or plan a crockpot meal for the second and third days.
I haven't had mine out, but I saw my DH's recovery. He had it out Friday afternoon and he basically just felt blah all weekend and he went to work on Monday.
On the other hand, my coworker had her's out a few months ago and seemed to feel pretty wretched for a week. But she's older, so that may have slowed her recovery.
Plan to take it EASY on yourself. If you feel better than you expect, you can always do more, but don't make big plans. It won't hurt your DH and daughter to eat PB&J or mac'n'cheese or pizza for dinner for a few days. :-)
Oh so it's definitely coming out, eh? Well, you'll feel so much better once it is!
I had mine out on a Friday morning and just overall felt "blah" the rest of that day and went to bed early. I laid low on Saturday and Sunday (though DH had to go into work, so I had to manage the kids myself that day) and it was very doable. I'd say by Saturday, I could definitely handle making a crockpot meal, though.
I worked from home Monday and Tuesday (which was easy enough - it was nice not having the commute) and then we left Wednesday for the long drive to see family down in Myrtle. Again, I did fine. I was off all pain meds by Thursday night (I had been using it for sleep only from Sunday through Wednesday night).
Plan for easy meals for yourself - soups, lighter lowfat meals, etc. I have a pretty good pain threshold and am not fond of sitting around too much, relying on others though. But I agree with listening to your body - don't overdo it!
My three sons!
Yep, definitely coming out. I met with the surgeon on Monday and she said with the history of attacks that I have had, she'd prefer to get it out and avoid future issues (apparently I have sludge in there - gross!). I think I'll just be glad to not feel like a ticking time bomb - I'm always concerned now at the slightest stomach twinge:-/ Thanks for the feedback ladies - very helpful!
