I usually look at the job boards of profesional organizations I belong to, interest groups related to my field, or the HR sites of organizations I'm interested in. I've never had much luck with the big sites like Monster and CareerBuilder. My industry is education/nonprofit--not sure what your focus is, but if you need recommendations let me know!
I've gotten a few bites off of Indeed and Monster. Career Builder is the worst IMO, because it's all staffing agencies. Occasionally, I get a few hits from CL, but that's rare these days.
I also tend to go to individual company websites, since many don't advertise in other places.
If you don't have LinkedIn, get it and if you have it, update it. I get tons of job leads from there. If I'm being pro active, I go to the sites that are specific to my profession. I rarely go to the Monster and Careerbuilder sites anymore.

My husband found his current job through indeed.com. It compiles all postings on the many big name job sides.
Also, if you want to be in the non-profit industry, the job page on the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance has a variety of listings from their member organizations.
If you are looking to get into a specific industry (say, PR), check out PRSA or other membership associations.
