Fall Clothing Changeover

It's not quite time for it yet, but do you have a method for attacking the clothing changeover that inevitably comes each season?

I just kind of take everything summer out of the kids' closets (and mine), put things in a bin that I know or hope will fit next summer, then dump out the fall clothes from the previous year and have at it.

For me, if I didn't wear it at all last season, it's gone. For the kids, I have to sort through to see what still fits, what new hand me downs or new clothes we have that will be worked into the wardrobe. And with 2 in daycare and all the stains and backup clothes needed there, I swear I need at least 15 pairs of pants for each kid just to keep up!!!!

So - what's your method? The dump and sort like I use, or do you have a more organized system you care to share with us all as we approach the time for changing over the closets.

(totally stealing this now that I typed it out and using it for a blog post hehe).

Re: Fall Clothing Changeover

  • I wish I had a method. I don't! Man do I need to get organized in that regard.

  • I just did the kids on Monday.  I left all of their summer clothes in the drawers because I feel like we may still need it.  I took all of their new clothes or hand me downs for fall and washed and put in drawers.  As it get cooler I will take their summer clothes and sort it into what I can consign and what I will donate.  I have zero hope of any of it fitting next year.  I haven't tackled my closet yet.  All my fall/winter things are in bins and will probably swap summer for fall/winter things.  I do need to get better about getting rid of things.  I tend to hold onto things too long because I always feel like I might need it at some point.
