Washing bed things

http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/65697815.aspx

Did anyone else see this link?  I think I'm a slacker.  I remember reading online that pillows last at least 18 months.  People throw theirs out every other month?  Talk about a throw away society.

Re: Washing bed things

  • I assume they buy the $5 pillows from target. I have a few that I use to stuff the pillow shams that came with my duvet. They do not hold up to washing. But yea, I would rather buy pillows every few years not every month. it is wasteful IMO.
  • I will admit, I never wash my pillows.

I wash my sheets every week or two, depends. Comforter once a month. I will occassionally vaccuum the mattress.

I will admit, this chick is too much! Steam and vaccuum your mattress weekly. Wow, I am lucky if I vaccuum my whole house weekly.

Holy cow!  I love a clean house, but how do you even have time for detailed cleaning like that?  I didn't even know people vacuumed their mattresses, so I guess that means my mattress is pretty gross!

  • I'm lucky if I remember to flip the mattress (or rotate, or whatever is is we're supposed to do) twice/year, let alone vacuum the whole thing!

  • I used to vaccuum it more when the dogs slept with us, they had a habit of pulling the sheets off. Now, I don't have to since they aren't on the bed, which is the only advantage of having old dogs they can't jump on the bed when your not home.
  • Maybe this makes me gross, but I've never vaccumed my mattress.   I didn't even know you're supposed to.  I flip it and rotate it.
  • we don't vacuum ours either. though I do have a dust mite barrier on all of ours cause of mine and EJs dust allergies.
