Thirsty, Therapy, or Thrifty Thursday....you pick!

Let see which one of these topics get discussed most today, that way we'll have a better idea of which one would be a good weekly topic.

Thirsty: New drink recipe, healthy drink recipes, etc.

Therapy: Vent about wha'ts going on in your life. We can all hopefully give you some support and words of wisdom

Thrifty: Any sales/groupons/deals that you've found online or at a store that others might be interested in.

  • Therapy: Y'all, this thing with my dog might kill me. As previously posted, he had liver shunt surgery about a week ago. The surgery went well, he hasn't had any seizures, and seems to be doing okay at home. But I'm just a nervous, worried wreck about him still- I'm not sure if he's doing as well as he should be, I'm worried that his liver levels are still high, I'm worried that his stitches aren't healing properly. We were at the vet earlier this week, and she said he looks good. I just can't seem to get in a good place in my head with it, and it's making me nuts. I work from home, so I'm with him all day and I feel like I am just obsessed about him. I have just been a nervous wreck for 2+ weeks about everything, and it's really starting to wear on me.

Another part of the problem is our family vet is crazy optimistic, but our surgeon is very doom & gloom (not about our particular case, but about the surgery in general), so it's hard to figure out the happy medium on my own.

I guess I will feel better when his stitches come out (Monday, hopefully), and then even better when his liver levels start coming down.

  • I'm so sorry about your pup, amandad.  :(  I'm sure it can be very stressful.

A verse that always helps me says, "Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?"  I know it's difficult, but worrying over your pup won't help him heal.  Dogs can pick up on human emotions better than we realize, and you wouldn't want to cause him more stress than he's already experiencing.  Maybe try to focus on the improvements when you notice them, and give your dog lots of love and praise. I will keep you guys in my thoughts and pray for a healthy recovery and good test results on Monday!

  • I am the BIGGEST worrier when it comes to our dog. I wanted to take like three days off from work when he got nutered and our vet very politely told me I was crazy. So you have my upmost empathy!

I agree w/ comeongetdown try and focus on the positives! He hasn't had seizures and it's been a week which is AWESOME!  Is there anything you can do to help his liver levels? Any special treats, etc.? I find that feeling like I have control over a situation when I'm worrying helps a lot! And best of all your vet thinks he's doing great! You might not be out of the woods yet, but these are all great signs!

What about the little things? How's he eating? I feel a million times better when our dog is sick and he starts eating again (and a billion times worse when he's not eating). Not to be gross, but how's his "business"? I also use this as another indicator of how our pup is feeling.

My gripe for the day: A coworker calls my office (we're 3 doors apart BTW) and tells me she's working on something, her text is green and she can't get rid of it and has tried everything. I ask her what she's working in she hesitates and says Excel. I tell her I'll be over in a minute. First of all she's working on a table in WORD. Second of all, all she's done is highlight the text, so I simply click on the text highlight color icon and select no color. Problem solved. She said she tried all the icons around it except that one. Seriously?! This same coworker changed her security settings and then couldn't open email attachements. Which I also had to fix. This woman should not be allowed around computers. She's our finance manager BTW.

  • I can relate to both of you!

When it comes to the puppy I agree with PP, is he eating and drinking and moving his bowels okay? If all that's fine i wouldn't worry too much. I'm a huge wuss when it comes to my dog as well, so i can totally relate. Have faith in your vet, and what they're telling you. Give the puppy lots of love and we're all thinking happy thoughts for you guys.

When it comes to the computer illiterate co-worker I totally know how you feel! I work with a lady who pretty much refuses to learn anything new unless she absolutely has to. We got a new printer/scanner and she still uses the old one becuase she refuses to learn how to use the new one, then whenever she needs to use the new one becuase it's the only one that scans in colour, we have to re-explain it to her everytime. She also likes to screw with document formatting, then make us fix it because she has no idea what she did. So frustrating! So i feel your pain!

This exactly! Why can't animals just talk like us humans? It would make things so much easier if they could tell you how they're feeling!

I also have computer illiterate people I work with. Excel is my favorite program so I know a lot about it, but everyone who needs to work with Excel should have some understanding about the damn program!

My therapy topic today: I'm not getting a paycheck this week....it sucks and I don't know what to do. I've started working on a resume in case the company goes under completely, but I'm feeling like i have to stay here for now because we're kind of this weird family-type company and I don't want to run away when it gets hard....

  • Thank you for not making me feel like I'm crazy... And I totally agree about wishing he could just freaking tell me how he feels. He's never been a great communicator- When he wants ANYthing, all he does is stand in the kitchen door and stares at us very seriously. Could be food/ water/ going outside/ going for a walk/ he can't find the right toy. He's helpful that way ;p

You might feel bad about leaving your "family" when things get tough, but you're going to feel a lot worse about not being able to pay your bills, you know? Don't feel bad about looking for something else- There is no way that they wouldn't be able to understand why you are.

And if you truly feel horrible about it- Would it be possible to pick up maybe a few temp positions instead of finding something permanent and full time? I had great experiences with working through temp companies when I was in college- Might be a way to give you some more options if business picks back up at your current job.

  • All the people I work with are computer stupid! I feel for you. And I have worked some weeks and not gotten paid because I too work for a small company and it sucks but you make it work and deal with it as long as you love your job. You just have to decide if your job is really worth staying and not getting paid for a week. I hate to see animals sick it just breaks my heart but it will all work out in the end it's just like a kid, they mess with your heart.

My Therapy: I have noticed myself lately getting very annoyed with H. We both work and yes his job is very physical while mine isn't but none the less I still work and hard at that. Anyways I come home cook, clean, do laundry and everything else. H however comes home showers, and sots in front of the tv. I basically have to beg him to take the trash out. It's driving me crazy! I hate being mad or annoyed with H but I have tried talking to him about it and it only changes for a few days. HELP!!

Hope he pulls through all right!  I don't have any pets, but I can imagine the entire "not knowing" thing would be terrible.

I'm going with thrifty - mpix.com is having 50% off of 8x10 prints through 9/18/12.  For those unfamiliar, mpix.com has awesome photo printing, pretty much the consumer side of a professional photography company.  See this blog here for a comparison vs. some other common print companies:

    http://paintthemoon.net/blog/2011/10/photoshop-actions-why-your-print-lab-is-so-important/

Anyways, the 50% off code is SEPT8x10 .  Enjoy, I just hung some of my prints in our entryway!

  • thanks for the thrifty post sam, i still haven't ordered any wedding pics, so i may have to do that now!

i'm gonna go with therapy.... *le sigh*  i think most of you probably know, but DH and i live and work in different cities 3 hours apart.  i was supposed to be here for 3-4 months to learn how to do my job so i could transfer to the office where DH works and work there.  it's been about 3.5 months and i'm getting really anxious to move to the denver office.

i've talked to my boss about it, and he's talked to his boss about it and basically no one knows what's going on. there's a lot going on and some departments in our office are being transferred to different offices all over the country, so i understand that all of upper management has their hands full with that, but it's SO frustrating.  all i want is to finally live with Stefan!  sometimes i have a better attitude about it, but nights like this where all i want is to cuddle with my husband, it's really hard!  :(

  • Mancila: I have the same problem with H. Out division of housework is definitely unbalanced and it's our biggest issue. If you figure out a solution let me know!!

Comeongetdown: if your bosses are so busy you should try just showing up at the Denver office one Monday ready to work and see what they say. Maybe they'll just assume your transfer got lost in everything else going on!
