Re: Unpopular Opinion Thursday

  • Did I miss the explaination about this? Is it like the vent Thursday?

Anyways, I guess my unpopular opinion would be I dislike all the political adds and don't pay attention to them.

I could  not agree with this more!!  I can't wait for the election season to be over.  Don't get me wrong, I believe in voting with an informed decision but I could care less about the mud slinging that happens in the commercials...just tell me your opinion and what you will do and be done!!

  • I dont mind the election ads- I just hate the super negative ones. I think its important to respect our current president, even during election time, even when we dont disagree with him. The whole world is watching us bash our president- what happened to the united front? I am fine with the candidates disagreeing with each other, as long as it is in a respectful way.

  • I'm glad you both understand what I'm getting at. I do think it is very important to be informed, but all the negativity  and all the mud-slinging, I don't need to see that. I also don't like seeing my Facebook news feed filled with my friends political reposts and all. Have of it is mudslinging too.
  • I am SO SICK of my friends' political posts.  I'm about to go on a massive defriending spree.  It's one thing to post something you think people should know, but there are a couple "friends" that post things that aren't even grammatically correct, not to mention that they usually just don't have any logical basis!

On another facebook related note:  I am sick of the Causes application.  My mother is obsesssssed with it, and she constantly posts ridiculous petitions and other stupid things on my wall.  No mom, I do not need to take a pledge through Causes that I will remember the events of September 11th.  HOW COULD I FORGET?!  How would a taking a pledge help me remember?!  And then when I bring it up to her that she needs to stop the ridiculousness she gets all righteous about whatever it is that she posted and how I'm an insensitive person for not supporting it.  It isn't that I don't support the actual issues, it's that pledging to do something on Causes doesn't actually make ONE BIT of a difference.

  • I am so over Aimee Copeland.  I cannot imagine what it was like for her and her family while she fought for her life, but people seem to ignore the fact that she chose to do something very stupid and irresponsible.

What did she do that was stupid again?

She's the girl that fell while zip lining then got the flesh-eating bacteria and lost her leg and both hands.
The part the news stories seem to leave out any more is that it was a rigged up, homemade zipline in someone's backyard - it did not happen at a professional place.

interesting. this is the first I heard it wasn't at a professtional zipline place. I just assumed it was.

  • This is from the AJC (link at end):

"On May 1, Aimee just wanted to relax. Her finals were done and she was gearing up to start working on her thesis. She and a couple girlfriends spent that Tuesday afternoon outside and, according to friends, went to a buddy?s home near the Little Tallapoosa River.

The friend?s yard included a homemade zip line, common around the area. Each of the women made a run on the line, riding out to the middle of the stream and dropping to an area where the water is about six feet deep. The line was attached to a low bluff, rising perhaps six feet above the rocky bank.

Aimee grabbed hold for her second ride. About three feet out from the bank, the line snapped and she fell, hitting a rock on the bank of the stream below."

  • I so agree with the political posts!  It's super important to be informed but I don't care to hear what everyone else thinks.

My unpopular opinion has to do with Facebook, too. I hate when people overshare!  I haven't seen this one girl that I graduated with since high school and I know that she has a baby with a deadbeat dad, she found the man of her dreams, they got married, had another baby, he's amazing and she needs to tell everyone about it, and now she's had a miscarriage.  Why does she feel like she needs to broadcast all of that on Facebook?!
