J and I were talking about our kitchen and what we'd love to do and what we are going to be able to do to make it lovely.
Gutting it out is not an option at all right now. If we stay with house then we'd have to gut it in a few year and move sink to a better area, maybe extend kitchen, add a bedroom above....
For now we are broke, and did i mention broke. Ok great. We have 3 different patterns/colors of laminate counter top. In an effort to make it visually pleasing I wanted to swap out counter tops for uniform color counter tops. paint cabinets, put down vinyl flooring (like allure) and paint walls. J suggested tiling the countertop. Would that be considered "better" thank laminate? I know it would certainly wear better.
Re: Thoughts on tiled countertops
I'm not a fan them. The grout lines would constantly skeeve me and would worry about breaking a tile. I'd prefer laminate. They have some really nice laminate right off the shelf in HomeDepot. We put it in our condo when we redid the kitchen and I got compliments on it all the time. People always had to touch it and ask if it was granite. It was very nice.
The things you listed can really rehab a kitchen and put the gutting bug to bed for a while. Good luck!!
