I worked a wedding yesterday that hired this Caterer. I have never seen anything this bad at any wedding before and I am sincerely concerned that guests may have gotten sick.
When I arrived at the Reception venue, I immediately noticed a strong fish smell. Not a "hmmm, there is some fish being cooked" kind of smell but more a "old raw fish in the rotten store window" kind of smell. Which is a clear sign, that the fish is not fresh. Fresh fish does not smell.... by the intensity of this smell the fish wasn't even barely fresh.
Then they messed up the table settings. There was a chart on how the tables were to be set, they did not even bother looking at it. They said "we just did our thing". There were supposed to be 10 people on each table, they only set 8. So it got really chaotic when people tried to be seated.
The manager and head person of the service was running around in red and black sweats with a red old shirt. She "had forgotten to bring her suit".
The venue was a little gem in the middle of the ghetto of Baltimore. It is normally locked with a gate but it was open for the wedding.
At one point I saw a black guy with old t-shirt and jeans hanging in his knees walking into the venue (no, the skin color is not an issue, I am just trying to explain the picture of the situation). I watched him because I thought it was someone trying to get into the building. I went to the coordinator to make her aware and she said with a heavy sigh that he actually belonged to the caterer. It was a seriously scaring looking creature and absolutely not appropriately dressed to be anywhere near a wedding, much less working for a vendor!
Then it turns out that they forgot to bring sterno fuel for the buffet bar. The ones they had must have not even been new because they would have lasted much longer. The food was cold. Not cool, like the heat just ran out, but COLD. And we are talking about fish (that already stank) and chicken here. They said we could take the plate to the kitchen and get them re-heated.
I tried a little cube of potato just so I can actually say I tried the food and that is how I know that it was cold as if it had come from the fridge and was never heated up. On top of that the potato was raw inside. Not barely cooked but crunchy raw.
Oh and did I mention that they ran out of plates?
I am really really worried that some people could have gotten sick last night. It was not just bad, it was scary.
PLEASE warn your friend brides of this Caterer!!
