Hi ladies!
I usually lurk over on the Bump, but thought I'd check it out over here. I was wondering if some of you might be able to help me.
A little background: DH and I live out by the airport and we want to move to the South Hills area. (He works down there.) I currently work in Ohio as a Spanish teacher. I've been job hunting off and on for the past 3 years (stopped job hunting for about a year after I had my son and finished my masters from CalU). I'm back on the job hunt again, but am kind of stuck. I have been working as a teacher and am thinking it's time for a career change. I'd prefer to stay within education, but I'd like to get out of the classroom. Or I've thought about moving to a trainer/HR position somewhere, but I'm unsure if I'd be qualified since my background is in Education and not HR/Business.
So my questions to you all:
1. Any suggestions for job hunting around Pittsburgh/South Hills? Any local professional organizations that you know of?
2. What job sites do you use? (I currently use Pa-Educator, Indeed, Monster, and Careerbuilder)
3. Any other suggestions/advice about switching from education to another field? (I'm not sure what I want to do exactly, other than I know I need to feel like I'm making a difference. I know I need to clarify what I'd like to do and I'm working on it.)
Thank you ladies for any and all advice. I'm going to try to start posting more and not lurking so much. Sorry it's so long.
Re: Looking for advice - Job hunting in Pittsburgh/South Hills areas
What about tutoring? Could you get involved with a Sylvan Center or something?
I wish I could be of more help, but I'm a northen 'burbs gal working in the City doing Marketing/Sales type work - I'm definitely not helping amke any difference! LOL
My three sons!
Thanks for the response! I've thought about tutoring. The issue is that the hours tend to be in the evening and I'm more productive in the mornings/early afternoon hours. Also, the pay isn't great until you gather a client base and I just can't take that kind of pay cut right now. Once I work closer to home (wherever that may be), then I'm hoping to do some tutoring on the side to keep my teaching skills up. But for now, it's not really an option.:-/
Thank you though! I appreciate your comment!
