Cutting down peony?

I have been researching to see what I should let die back and what I should cut down and I read the peony shrub/bush should be cut down. But talking to my neighbors they said they have never cut theirs down.

WWYD?

Also, this is so stupid, but it's my first garden ever after my whole life in an apartment and I am scared to cut things back in case they never grow again. It's so silly.

Re: Cutting down peony?

  • As a general rule I let perennials die back before cutiing them off and cleaning them up. I've never cut my peonies but I have cut things that I don't particularly care if they come back or not.
