Do you wash your hair? I?m slowly trying to get away from washing it every day. Mostly because I have long hair and I know how drying it can be. I?m at every other day right now. My hair dresser has long gorgeous locks and only washes 1-2 times a week. I know I?ll probably never get to that point, but what should I be striving for? What do all you ladies do?
Re: How often....
I wash my hair about every 2 days or so....so I guess thats about 3 times per week.
When I do wash my hair, I usually blow dry and straighten it, which would literally kill my hair if I did it every single day.
I use Nexxus Frizz Defy shampoo/conditioner and then a little bit of Morrocan oil before I dry/straighten and it seriously makes my hair look great for a couple of days.

I am kind of in the same boat - long, thick hair (down to about my bra-strap now).
I used to be a every other day girl as far as washing (and wishing I was an every day girl!) Seriously, by the end of day #1 I felt like my hair was oily. It doesn't help that my natural root color emphasizes any sort of oil/grease. Now I only wash 3 times a week!
Anyways, I originally switched shampoo to my salon brand (Purology) to see if it would help my highlights/lowlights look brighter for longer. By switching my shampoo I noticed a difference right away - my scalp wasn't as itchy/dry in spots, my highlights looked better, my hair seemed less oily. Then I went through a period of time where I started getting lazy and then washed only every 3rd day for a couple of weeks as opposed to every other day (sounds gross, but I wear my hair up everyday for work so it wasn't really noticeable).
I then got back into my every other day washing habit, but I then started noticing that on the "every other" day, it wasn't really greasy/oily and didn't need to be washed. Now I wash it on Mondays, Thursdays, and one weekend day for the most part. My scalp is SO much healthier than when I was washing it like crazy - my scalp was a crazy combo of dry/itchy or oily almost immediately. I NEVER would have thought that I could that long in between! (Like I said, for most of my life I felt like I needed to wash my hair EVERY day).
I've also picked up some dry shampoo that I've been wanting to try for those off days. I don't know that I'll ever get to 1-2 times a week, but I never thought I'd get to 3 times so who knows! I'd ask your hairdresser for shampoo recs. Otherwise, here is what I use:

I use the Perfect 4 Platinum because I'm blonde. It's a little bit more expensive on the front end than buying some at the store, but it's so concentrated I find myself using a lot less so I really think it ends up being a wash (no pun intended!). Plus, with all the money I spend on hair color I might as well get a nice shampoo to maintain it. Good luck!
I wash my hair every other day usually. Sometimes I'll go 2 days before washing it, depending on how it looks.
I used to wash it everyday a few years ago until my hair dresser told me to stop, haha. I usually blow dry my hair after so doing that everyday to it was just not a good idea.
This is exactly how I feel now too. For a long time I was using crappy hair products because the salon stuff was too expensive. And if I run out and use something like Pantene or Herbal Essences, my head is so itchy and dry and my hair looks like crap.
Also, I bought a dry shampoo (i think it's Tresemme) and it's great for the last day before I wash my hair again, it just keeps my hair nice for a few more hours.

So glad to know I am not alone here. I have friends that have given me dirty looks when I have said I haven't washed my hair in 2 days. I try to wash my hair every other day or every 2 days. I will say it depends on my week and what all is going on. I don't have to worry about work since I don't ever see people so we don't have to "dress up" or anything.
My hair gets really greasy super easy and honestly I have found nothing that helps that. But I have long hair about the same length as most of you. It grows super quick (vitamins) and it is really thick so I HATE blow drying it.
i shampoo/condition my hair everyday. my hair is so fine and gets oily super quick that if i skip a day, my head looks like an oil slick. it's terrible. i've tried washing only every other day but it just drives me bonkers on the second day. if i don't wash my hair i feel gross. lol
i also don't use any product or blow dry, i just brush it out and let it air dry.

My hair gets pretty oily and I HAVE to style it every day because its more frizz then wave....and not straight or curly, so it really depends....sometimes every day sometimes every 2-3 days depending if I have put product in it to bring out the curls (then every day), or straighten it, which I can wear it straight for 2 days and sometimes pull a ponytail for the 3rd day...NEVER can do more then 2-3 days though.
My Blog:Through My Eyes
I wash my hair daily. I have a super short cut and very oily skin and hair. It stands straight up in the mornings and is a greasy mess.
I just started using that WEN stuff and I love it. It makes my hair so soft, shiny and gives it tons of body without having to pile on a ton of product.
I just Amazon Prime'ed some of this to my house last week...going to give it a try today!
I think it's definitely doable to wean yourself off of every day/every other day washing, it's just a question of whether you can endure the weeks/months it is going to take for your scalp/skin to adjust =]
