Sophie the Giraffe

What is it and why is it a must have?

Should I be rushing out to buy one?

Re: Sophie the Giraffe

  • It's a giraffe shaped teether. Ive heard its amazing but I never got one for DD and she got teeth all the same. However I could not say if it would have been a good choice in a side by side comparison, maybe he would have liked it, I just couldn't see spending $30 on a teether when other ones were $3.

  • Gottcha - I had seen it in BRU and thought it was just a very expensive toy.
  • It's pricey but so worth it. We used sophie for like a year, it is easy for them to hold and feels so good on teething gums.

  • Brooks never loved his so I gave it to a friend, her daughter LOVES it.

    Yes.

As I mentioned in a post below, we have 2 Sophie's. The normal sized one, which DS loves. It's great for teething as LD said - the ears and hooves must feel really good on the gums. Plus, she squeaks.

Mini Sophie we sent to daycare with DS. Now we stick her in the freezer for teething relief.

We have a lot of teethers and if given the choice, DS always picks a Sophie. In short, we do not leave the house without a Sophie.

To soften the blow, you can use the BRU coupons on them.

  • We have Sophie and DD loves her!  Sophie is super easy for them to grip and has lots of different angles they can chew on different parts depending on where they are teething.  I know everyone says the toy is super expensive, but that is honestly the only teething thing my DD will constantly chew on.

  • Sophie provided us hours of entertainment and teething relief, so I would have no problem buying it again! It was given to us as a gift, and I had no idea what it was at the time.

It's also made of 100% natural rubber and is safe for babies to chew on (I'm sure you can find other natural teethers out there, though too).

  • My niece loved hers, and co-workers babies love theirs, but dd is indifferent. So for us it wasn't a "must have;"  I've heard of more babies who love it than not.

  • Hunter has successfully pushed out 8 teeth without the help of Sophie.  My biggest issue is it squeaks, and I find that so annoying.  And like I'm giving my child a dog toy.

We have a nuby ring that Hunter was a big fan of.  Or any dollar store teether that was frozen

  • To justify the money, you can really stretch the use...Sophie is now a tub toy for the littles, she rides in the boat and lightening mcqueen car around the tub nightly

  • I'll ditto what Amy said. I was super bummed when I opened Sophie and found out how much it squeaked and how loudly it squeaked. I would have liked Sophie much more if it didn't squeak. That thing got really annoying quick when Danica would sit there and go at it.

Danica used her Sophie to the point where it's missing a lot of its original color but she wasn't obsessed with it by any means. I don't really think it was a 'must have', imo, but Danica did have fun with it.

Danica actually liked this one more than Sophie. She really liked the nubbies on the top of its head.

  • My kid uses Sophie more for entertainment purposes than actual teething.  He loves that she squeaks and he REALLY likes to throw her around.
