Cable/Internet company?

Ok so we've had Time Warner since we moved in 2006 for internet and cable.  (At the time they not offer home telephone and we've used Vonage for same).

That said since we've been out of our house we cut the cable and kept the internet going for phones (home and business).  When these floors get installed (seriously the only major project holding up a true return) I am going to need cable tv.  I don;t want to pay 130 for just internet and a few channels.  I've been toying with the idea of streaming stuff since we never watch tv live anyway.

That said what cable company do you use?

Happy with it?

How much do you pay for what services?

Re: Cable/Internet company?

  • We have Verizon fios and have been much happier than we were with cable. More channels, fewer outtages, fewer billing errors. I don't remember what we're paying but they usually offer package deals that cost the same as from the cable company.

  • We also have Verizon Fios and are happy with the service. We've had absolutely no problems or complaints and have had them for over two years. We had a two year introductory price... our bill came to $98 every month for phone, internet and cable. Since the two year period ended, it has gone up to $140 a month, which I still don't think is bad for all three and no problems.

  • We have Cablevision.  Fios isn't available in our development so we don't have that option.  We have phone, internet, and TV.  I think we pay about $175.  We do have an upgraded TV package with some movie channels plus 2 cable boxes one of which is a DVR so they add to the cost.  I know my parents were able to call and get their price reduced by Cablevision by threatening to switch to Fios when it became available.  I would do the same if Fios was an option by us.  Other than the price, we really haven't had problems with Cablevision.  Our internet was slow for a while and they gave us a newer modem and it's been fine since then.  We rarely lose cable though.  Just wish it was cheaper!
  • We have Time Warner, we dont have any other options, other than satellite. Our bill for (home phone, internet, cable) is $131/month. They raised it on us about 6 months ago and i had my husband call and chew them out and they brought it back down to the original rate.  We dont have any fancy channels like ShoTime or HBO.  It annoys the crap out of me but we have to have a house phone for the police dept and i dont want to deal with the satellite.  That being said we rarely have trouble with our service with Time Warner.

  • We have Dish Network for tv. We are very happy with them. Not outages like cable or problems like cable. We have been able to get movie channels for free. We pay &100 a month which is a lot.

For Internet and phone we have cablevision. Nothing else is offered in our area. We pay $75 for 2 phone lines and turbo Internet, which is a waste.

  • I wish we had fios, but it doesn't extend to our road =(

We used to have comcast for phone, internet, and tv and HATED them.  They kept raising their prices because they knew we were stuck with them for internet,  We ended up dropping them down to just internet (because they are the only service available in my neighborhood) and got the magicjack for the phone and DirecTV for tv.  I LOVE DirecTV!

  • Fios, Fios, Fios.  They are great, zero complaints.  Yes your bill may increase after your two years, but I've noticed, if you "renew" your contract they will drop it.  Every two years I make sure to check if I have the best rate.  This summer I did it all online just talking to the online representative.  When we first signed up, we got a free netbook.  This summer we got a VISA gift card.  If they're in your area....Fios for sure.
  • We bought it at BestBuy for $70 (that included the wires and everything and the first year of service).

DH set the whole thing up... it is a jack that you can either plug into the wall or the computer (we do the wall) and the router.  He also had to download a program to set the whole thing up.  I think it took 3 days after he set it up for the magic jack to start working because we had them import our phone number so it didn't change.  It has been working great.  The other day I did hear static so I told DH and he talked with someone from magic jack on the computer.  They figured out that the program had an update that we hadn't done.  After we did the update, it was fine.
