Cleveland, OH

We are headed to Cleveland this weekend and I would love to hear recommendations of what to do /where to go & where to eat... Right now the only things we have planned is to check out the great lakes brewery & the browns/bills game. Thanks!

Re: Cleveland, OH

  • Spend some time in University Circle. Within a very small area are the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Botanical Garden, the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Western Reserve Historical Museum, and a few others. You can park at one and visit the others. The Cleveland Museum of Art has free admission, but the others unfortunately do not have a bundle deal. Right up the street from University Circle is Little Italy. Parking is really tough, but you can find some excellent dinner and dessert options.

The weather has been pretty unpredictable for the past couple weeks. Right now the forecast for this weekend says rain, but this morning the forecast for the weekend was decent. Nights have been getting chilly.

  • we just came back from a Cleveland vacation last weekend.  we stayed downtown at the Marriott Key Center (the casino comped us here) and it was nice, clean, typical Marriott.

My husband is a CLE hater (us being from Pittsburgh) but I am happy to say this trip reformed him.  Friday we went to Great Lakes Brewery - we are big fans of their beer.  They food was OK - nothing amazing, but decent bar food.  They had Nosferatu on tap which made our evening.  We didn't do the tour - the actual brewing area looked really small so we bagged it.  That area (Ohio City?) is really cute - a number of bars and brewpubs.

We went to the casino for a few hours - it is nice, but very small and jam packed with high minimums.  Non smoking, which is awesome.

Saturday AM was gorgeous.  We took a walk down to the lake near the RRHOF and hung out for a while, had some coffee.  For breakfast, we went to Grumpy's in Tremont, which was really tasty.  Diner-esque place with great food and delicious home fries.  We then drove out to my friends house, west of Cleveland (the purpose of the trip) and stopped at the Arhuas furniture outlet on the way.

That night, we met up with our friends at Lola, which is a Michael Symon restaurant in a really cute/trendy part of downtown.  This was my 2nd time here and it did not disappoint.  Amazing food and service... highly recommend.

Sunday morning we we just got up and left.

We had a great time - Cleveland rocks :)

  • DH and I visited Cleveland this past winter and had a great mini getaway. We had some great meals at Melt Bar and Grilled (a gourmet grilled cheese place, lots of beers on tap, and Man versus Food actually filmed there) the Greenhouse Tavern and Saigon which are both on East Fourth Street and is home to a lot of nice restaurants. In terms of attractions, we visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Cleveland Museum of Art. We didn't have time but the Cleveland Botanical Gardens looked really nice and is nearby.

  • We loved the Christmas Story House. If you like the movie, it's definitely worth checking out. Plus you'll get some fantastic Christmas card pics.
