Hey Girls
One of my good friends is pregnant with twins and having contractions at 31 weeks so that dr wants her on bedrest basically 100%. She is in the hospital until Thursday for some other monitoring and i was hoping to make a few meals for her next week. I already spoke with her and told her to let me know what she might like. She said she just might take me up on that offer but I know her well enough to know that she isn't the type to reach out and Id rather just drop it off for her.
Any suggestions on what to make? I was thinking ziti but I'm not sure
Re: Meal help for PG Friend
ditto nikosmom
what about freezer packs of cooked shredded chicken, ground beef and veggies so that she has stuff on hand to make dinner.
also, I saw on pinterest freezer meals for crockpots

You are so sweet to do this.
that is SO nice! If she's on strict bedrest she won't be allowed up to cook anything and may not even be able to go to the table to eat, so think of things her husband can heat easily that are complete such as lasagna, a caserole, quiche, meatballs (leave a few sub rolls for sandwiches) or things that just require reheating in the oven or microwave. If she's on modified, then your options are more open. I know my hubby couldn't master much in the kitchen so if on strict, make it as simple as possible.
I like the ideas everyone has mentioned. My only issue with ziti, or other pasta dishes are that most people tend to cook that stuff so if others are giving her meals too she might end up with a lot of repeats. And this is JMO but I never really love Ziti reheated, to me it gets mushy.
I like the soup idea, enchiladas, tacos, meatballs with rolls, quiche-if it were me those are what I'd prefer to get. When K was born my mom made us some trays of chicken Marsala and francaise with sides to go with it. That takes a little more effort on your part but it was delish and easy to heat up and eat.
I agree with Ali's suggestions. When my dad passed and people brought food we preferred the things where the main thing was already done and we just had to boil some pasta and that is easy enough for the husband to do on his own if need be.
maybe sauce with meatballs/sausage in it and frozen garlic bread
a tray of chicken parm or something similar
quiche was another winner
Enchiladas are an awesome idea - here are 2 of my favsss http://www.annies-eats.com/2007/11/19/benchiladas/ or http://stephaniecooks.blogspot.com/2011/07/honey-lime-enchiladas.html
crockpot salsa chicken or pulled pork freezes well
my usuals for stocking the freezer for ourselves which also make simple meals for my husband to put together:
meatballs or meatsauce and garlic bread - i usually cook pasta while the meatballs and bread are heating, but if i make this for a friend, i will also give them a box of pasta
baked chicken taquitos - can be frozen when cooked and reheated individually
baked chicken fajitas - leave all ingredients mixed and raw in freezer bag and then dump on baking sheet and cook when thawed, serve with tortillas and toppings
breaded, fried chicken cutlets - can use as is, slice and toss over salad, can turn into chicken parm, make a cutlet sub. i try to make a 8-10 cutlets at a time. so long as i'm standing and making a mess already.....
chicken stir fry freezes well, and it's light and healthy. brown or white rice can be frozen separately too.
you might consider making pancakes or waffles for them - it's fine for any meal of the day!
What an amazing idea. I may have to try this!!
