I need to be inspired for 10 year anniversary trip

DH and I celebrate 10 years next June. We're going to take a trip without the kids but can't seem to get excited about any destination we talk about. In general, we like to travel to places we haven't been before. We enjoy relaxing, but we also like a little adventure wherever we go. We honeymooned in Maui and originally thought we'd try another Hawaiian island...but we're afraid we'll be disappointed (becaause we loved Maui) and suffer from "been there done that" syndrome. We did St Thomas & St John with some friends a few years ago so we don't think we want to do another Caribbean island because of the same thing. We know they're all different though, so might be swayed if something about it excites us. We don't want to fly as far as Tahiti or Bora Bora (we're in Colorado), but Europe isn't out of the question...except we don't want a go-go-go trip. If we go anywhere in Europe we may feel the need to go and see everything we haven't seen before leaving little time for relaxation. I'm open to any ideas at this point...please inspire me.

  • I'd probably go to some little beach paradise in south east Asia.  Boracay (or something a little more remote in the Philippines?)  Or somewhere in Malaysia (Langkawi?) or Indonesia (Lombok)?

Maybe just even one of the beaches in Thailand.

Our 10th is next year... and you're inspiring me to think about a trip for us, too.  ;)

  • Hmmmm...my immediate thought was the FP but since you have nixed that one...

I would probably go to Paris. It is so romantic and you don't have to go, go, go.  Neary every time we have been, we kind of mosey around - stop and get a glass of wine and some cheese. Then walk on over to an excursion. Leave there.  Get some wine and a dessert.  Mosey to the next place. Hang out. People watch...People in Europe tend to enjoy life more than we do, which means Paris isn't fast paced at all. To us, it is so relaxing.  Further, there are some fantastic restaurants.

  •  Our 10th anni was last Monday, and we just came back after two weeks in Costa Rica. What a gorgeous country, simply perfect for adventure, romance, making memories... We had a blast, and I would totally recommend it.

  • I vote for Belize or Costa Rica. Or maybe the Greek Isles.
  • whats your budget? how long do you have for the trip? what are your interests?

  • Thanks for all your thoughts so far.

We like hiking, cycling, golf, skiing, snorkeling, beach. We enjoy sightseeing but wouldn't say we're history buffs. We're not gamblers or into nightclubs but we enjoy our cocktails and good food.

We have a week, give or take, and budget is somewhat flexible.

  • while my first thought was tuscany i probably wouldn't go in june as it's super crowded.

my 2nd thought was Canada-either the rockies, toronto or quebec or montreal-great restaurants, enought to do but not so much as to overwhelm if you plan right, great weather in june, easy and fast to get there and back, tons of outdoor stuff to do.

  • I still vote Hawaii. The other islands are so different (and in a good way) from Maui I think if you liked Maui you'd still enjoy them. For the record we're going back to one of the places we went on our HM for our 10 year next year. For our HM we went to NZ and Australia, and next year we're going back to NZ to do a four day hike and see Auckland, which we didn't do the first time, and we're tacking on a few days in Fiji because that's where my husband always said we should elope to when wedding planning got tough.

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

  • Alaska would be awesome- maybe not a cruise but fly there then take an rv?

You can combine Vancouver, BC then somewhere on Vancouver Island (we just came back from Vancouver+Tofino and I'm still working on my trip report- check out my blog). We had an awesome time, great mix from city + adventure + relaxation.

I've dreamed of Patagonia but it might be not enough relaxation.

  • This is kind of out there but hasn't been suggested yet - what about an African Safari?  That seems 10th anniversary worthy to me. Plenty of girls on TN Travel board have been on them and can help you plan.

  • If you like to ski Massachusetts has some great locations for skiing and traveling. One perk about vacationing in MA is that you are not too far from other fantastic locations such as Cape Cod and Boston.

How about a blue cruise along the Turkish coast?  Lots of activities, kind of beachy, and I loved the food everywhere I went in Turkey.
