Sweet relief - parkway north commuters...

I love how they have to add "ahead of schedule"

Southbound I-579 Crosstown Boulevard Ramp to Boulevard of the Allies Reopens Thursday in Pittsburgh

Four days ahead of schedule

Pittsburgh ? PennDOT District 11 is announcing the ramp from southbound I-579 (Crosstown Boulevard) to the eastbound (toward Oakland) Boulevard of the Allies (Route 885) and the Parkway East (I-376) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will reopen to traffic on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 20.

The ramp, which has been closed since mid-July for painting and other bridge rehabilitation improvements, is expected to be open for the evening rush hour Thursday. PennDOT, working diligently with the project?s prime contractor, the Trumbull Corporation of Pittsburgh, is opening the ramp about four days ahead of schedule.

Once the ramp reopens Thursday, traffic on southbound I-579 will remain in a single lane pattern and ramp traffic from downtown will be required to stop before entering southbound I-579. These traffic restrictions will remain in place through early Monday morning, Sept. 24.

The work is part of the $36 million Crosstown Boulevard/Veterans Bridge Preservation Projects Phases I & II. Construction will conclude in 2013.

  • Praise baby Jesus.  Although I am loving the HOV.  It's going to be hard to go back!
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • Painting bridges is so overerated.

I usually do well, temperwise, until just before the split getting onto the Vets bridge. When it takes 20 minutes to get from East Street to the Arena ramp, though (and you know one lane is closed for the workers' cars) - that's about when I start cursing.

I was soooo close to jumping on the HOV lane today, but I talked myself out of it. *sigh*
