FINALLY!

So 5 months after graduating...I FINALLY have an interview for a job in my field (social services-front line)  next week....WISH ME LUCK! ( I'll tell you more about the job if I get it...don't want to get my hopes tooo high yet....)

Any interview tips for me?

Re: FINALLY!

  • Yay! Congrats and good luck! I know you'll do super.

For tips....dress the part, smile, have fresh breath, and give a FIRM handshake (none of this wet-fish stuff). I would bring a copy of your resume (even if they have it, I would still bring it and give it to them) and a list of references. Interviwers like to see you're on top of stuff like that. Also, prepare questions for them. I don't know anything about social services, so I couldn't give good examples. Oh! And smile.

Hope that helps a little. Good luck and keep us posted :)

  • Everything PP said and for the love of God if they ask you what your weaknesses are, DON'T say that you're a prefectionist. Say something honest, like you sometimes have a hard time accepting criticism, you can be stubborn, you sometimes have difficulties with priority management... That's always the key interview question that I ask to see whether the person is honest/self aware and I really get disappointed when people say perfectionism. It's too cliche. They want to hear that you know you can improve on something.

Research salaries for your position with your education. Payscale.com is a good site for this. Know what you're worth!

Also, do your research about the company. If the info is available online, make notes about what you like about the company, and know what their corporate values are and how you will fit in to that.

Good luck! Yay for working in your field!

  • Yay!!! Congrats it will go great don't stress about it. I agree with what the other ladies say. Honestly I think if you just relax and smile and are yourself that's all that will matter. Dress correctly and think about what you are saying but just relax. Be open and honest and know you got that degree for a reason and they would be lucky to have you.

Don't stress over it. Get a goodnights sleep before eat a decent healthy breakfast and take time getting yourself ready. You'll do great!

  • That's awesome! Congratulations!

  • Hooray! Get it, girl!

I poured out all my interview tips in a previous post for tmeyer once. It was exhausting to do, so I don't have the energy to do it again, but I might come back with the link to that post if I find it :-)

EDIT: Found it! Here it is!
