Where do you bank/savings account %?

What's your savings account earning percentage wise?  I just got an email that ours was lowered to .10%.  Is that comparable to yours?  I figured 1-2% was normalish...and .10 sounds extra crappy.  I know they're crap right now, but they might as well just lower it to 0.  FWIW, this isn't our main savings, more of an overflow account that we keep X amount in to pay quarterly taxes.

Re: Where do you bank/savings account %?

  • We don't even use a savings account anymore. Right now, all of our cash is in the market. I am tired of screwing with banks, their crap interest rates, their crap fees, and their crap policies. Might as well dig a hole in your backyard and bury your money.

Holy sh!t. I am my father.

Burying my money doesn't sound like such a bad idea right now! Our bulk is in the market, too, and I'm just waiting for it to crash again.  Not that it matters because we don't need it anytime soon...but it's frustrating to see it go to shitt and climb back up only to do the same thing again.

You just need to know when to get out. The market moves in cycles. When you feel itchy, sell and convert to cash, watch it fall, and buy again.

  • Looks like ours savings is 0.1% too at FAA. I think we get 3ish % on our checking, but I don't think they offer that type of checking account anymore.

  • If you can use TFCU, I think they offer around 3% (or so says the propaganda that they push on all new government employees).  First National Bank also had something competitive with the rates at TFCU.
  • We have a Click Checking account at TFCU and it is currently paying just over 3%. It does have a limit on how much it will earn but I think it is only comes into play if you have over 30K in the account.
  • I'm trying to figure out where to put the nest egg, myself. I want somewhere that's completely safe but that has a higher interest rate than the joke rates offered by the banks. I don't want to mess around with buying and selling, either.
  • I'll have to check into TFCU and see if I can do our business accounts through their 3%...that would be better than what we are getting now.

As far as pulling out of the market, we don't really do individual stocks.  We're into mutual funds of different sorts, and a couple of them have penalties if you pull the money out before a certain time.  Our finance guy is pretty good about switching things around, though, so I'm just going to keep on trucking until I educate myself more on it.
