Experiences with invisible fencing?

I am trying to decide among brands. If you have one, I'd love to hear about the positives and negatives. Thank you!

  • We have this and love it:  http://www.petsafe.net/products/fencing-and-containment/wireless-fences

Plus it's not permanent and it's portable.  We have taken it camping, fishing and when we go to my parents or inlaws house.  No negatives!  It needs a new battery every 3 months or so ($5 each).  We pick how large or small the area.  It gives a good border area of beeping.  Crosby has never been shocked outside the first month of using it.  We have has it for 3 years now.

  • My parents neighbors have an Invisible Fence brand. They like it but I will mention that their first golden retriever used to break free all the time. It had absolutely no effect on her. Their current dog does stay in the yard.
  • We just got it. Well actually the line was in from the previous owner so we just had to get them to connect it back up and buy a collar. It was still expensive!

We've had it since around Labor Day and our dog is already trained. We have had some good distractions like a bunny run across the back of our yard and the dog stayed in the yard. Our dog is pretty much not trained with anything else but has learned the fence really well. She got shocked once during the first week or so while she was learning and that was enough. We were worried about her getting out if she saw an animal or something but we were pleasantly surprised that the first bunny running and she stayed in the yard.

as for brands we went with then because we already had the line from the previous owners. But I know a few people who use them and are happy with them.

  • We have it - well had it at the old house and are going to move it to the new house - my husband said he can move it - we will see.  Molly does not leave the yard with it but it did take a while to train her (training is included in the price) and we had to have a "little extra".  Our next door neighbors had it for their 2 boxers and they never had a problem with their dogs.  I guess it all depends on the dog.  Good luck.
  • my SIL both worked for "Invisible Fence" and use it and have continued to and gotten it again when moving. They rave about it.
