Is this normal? (Period Question)

So I was on NuvaRing for about 7-8 months. While I was on it my period was 3-4 days. I came off a little over two months ago. My H and I have had both protected and unprotected sex (he uses the pull-out method when we don't use a condom). The first period I had came a day later than normal, on a Sunday night, and was a very light pink and turned bright red the next day. It wasn't heavy, but wasn't as light as spotting either. It was enough bleeding for about two regular pads. The second day was much lighter, but still enough for maybe one pad. Then by Tuesday night/Wednesday morning there was nothing. No spotting or brown. So a total of two days.

The second period I had, which started yesterday morning at about 4am, came with cramps and again bright red blood. I changed my pad twice yesterday, and today (the second day) it is again much lighter. I am still on my first pad.

What would cause 2 day periods two months in a row?

Re: Is this normal? (Period Question)

  • You are coming off hormones that regulate your period.  Your body needs time to adjust.  It's fine and most likely normal.  If you are further concerned, call your OB/GYN, but your body needs time to re-regulate itself without external hormones.

All of this.  Plus I suggest using something other than pulling out if you don't want to end up pregnant.

  • Thanks for the responses. And H and I only use the pullout method sometimes, since we both really don't like condoms. Neither one of us would be upset if we got pregnant, we're just not actively trying.

  • You use the same pad two days in a row?  Not sure if i read that right???  Your bleeding because your shedding your wall....regardless of hormones..!  Mine lasts 5 days...heavy bleeding...heavy cramps!  Your lucky to have light days!

  • Haha, no I do NOT wear the same pad the whole time. I change them pretty regularly. What I was trying to say is that the amount I bleed in those two days is only enough to fill 1, maybe 2 regular pads. I agree though, it must just be hormones. Just wanted to get some reassurance. Thanks for everyone's input.

I know what a period is, and how it works, I just find 2 day periods to be abnormal for me. While I was on the ring they were 3-4 days, and prior to that they were 7-8 days of very heavy bleeding and horrible cramps. I have endometriosis, and started my period at 11 years old. I started getting heavy periods and cramps right away, and missed a lot of school and work over the years because of it.

I was just trying to see if everyone agreed that the hormones were to blame. I'm definitely not complaining about the fact they are light and short right now, just trying to make sure I'm not all excited about something that could actually be a sign of something wrong.

  • Definitely just the hormones. Give yourself 6mos off them and see how your body is doing. Good luck!
