Crime is this bad

Re: Crime is this bad

  • Must be a slow time for the police...either that or you have some rabid homeowners who are willing to do anything to squash anything that might be an eyesore!

Although who am I kidding, I'd be seriously irritated if my neighbors starting parking on their front lawn.

The article doesn't really elaborate - do you guys have a shortage of driveways and garages?  Shortage of street parking?  Or are all the southern stereotypes true and everyone has 4 cars, and one car on blocks in the front yard? ;)

  • If you read the comments a lot of them said there's a lack of parking so most people don't have a choice.

When I would go visit my mom I would park in the front lawn, partly because I thought it was funny, and partly because street parking wasn't an option and when there are 3 siblings and 2 parents all with their own cars it's impossible to get everyone in the driveway.

This just sounds like a great example of a police station that doesn't have anything better to do.

  • Apparently this has been a law for a while now they are just upping the fines. There is plenty of crime that this should really not be a concern. And yes some people are a little trashy and have cars that haven't moved in forever and I 100% agree with that.

But for H and I we live on a VERY narrow street and parking on the street is basically knowing you will get hit. Granted we do have a long driveway but it is also narrow. We also have a boat and 2 trailers and the law counts towards that. So we can't even park our boat in our backyard on the grass without getting a ticket.

    Haha, me too!

I was wondering the same thing....do people not have driveways at all? That seems odd to me if that's the case. I'm also wondering why people would want to park on their lawn if they had a driveway....H would not be happy if I parked on and therefore destroyed the lawn!

I think this is pretty common everywhere.  I know my dad was storing our boat during the winter on our side lawn, and he got a ticket and was told he had to move it.  Now they are just planning on pouring another slab of concrete!

That sucks that you can't even keep your boat in your backyard!

I have no clue if this is a law where I live. If it is, I don't think it's enforced. Since we have such bad winters, they really enforce the opposite of keeping people off the streets so that they can plow.

  • I had a good chuckle at this one.  There are only 4 houses on our street.  And we all park on the lawn.  The road is mega busy and while technically there is street parking, the 18 wheeler trucks go whipping by at 60 mph and would wipe out your car in a heartbeat.  My neighbor had this happen twice, which is why we all park on the lawn.

  • The people that live across the street has a driveway for one car, and then over the summer this person had at least 3 people living with her and had 3 cars lined up along the front of her yard, which I could easily back into when backing out of our driveway. It really pissed me off!

I suppose I feel pretty lucky DH and I have a nice big driveway :)

  • So much for owning property....What the point of property if you cant store your own stuff on it anways?

We don't have a front yard, but since we have no garage, one of us parks on the street (Me and I hate it because the neighbors have 3 vehicals - 2 which are huge trucks that they try and part in front of thier house and our lots are only 23ft wide...)
and my H parks on the grass in the backyard where we tore the fence down onto the allyway.

Sounds like that wouldnt fly there.....

I understand that it might be an eyesore, but I honestly feel like giving people tickets for storing thier stuff on thier own property defeats any of the democratic process, and I guess the USA (and probably parts of Canada)  aint a free land anymore...but we already knew that.
