North Pgh - Pedi reccomendations

Who does everyone use?  Anyone you would avoid?  I'm open to using someone in the Cranberry area, but am also debating going further north (closer to our house).

Is there anything I should be looking for specifically or avoid?

Feel free to pm.

  • We use Children's Community Pediatrics in Wexford (on Brooktree Rd); we primarily see either Dr. Rowland or Dr. Stewart, though we've seen quite a few others during sick visits and they've all been nice.  The nurse's line is great about answering questions and calling back promptly, and we never have to wait very long.

  • We go to Pediatric Alliance - Northland Division.  The McKnight office is our location, but they also have a Cranberry location.  We generally see Dr. Brian or Dr. Mary,  although we also usually rotate through all of the Dr.'s and have always been happy with them.  They have Saturday morning hours and evening hours (3x week between the two offices), have phone hours, etc. which is helpful with both of our work schedules.  Good luck!

  • Ditto Childrens Community Pediatrics in Wexford.  We see Dr. Butler and love him.  We have also seen all of the other docs in the practice at one time or another  and I agree with PP that they are all great!
  • We like Children's Community, Bass Wolfson in Cranberry.  They have walkin appointments from 7:30-10:30 for a sick visits if you don't want to schedule an appointment.  We never have to wait when we show up for a sick visit.  We have seen all of the docs over the past 3 years and have never had a bad experience.  They call to follow up with test results and are on top of things.

I'm feeling overwhelmed too, but I just figure getting some sort of information will help me figure this stuff out.  My other concern is since I'm delivering at West Penn, I don't want to get sucked in to a doctor in the city, but someone at least reasonably close to home.

  • We go to Pediatric Alliance, Northland Division (in McCandless) but am thinking about switching because the commute is a good 25 minutes for us and basically out of the way for us.

Overall, I've been pleased with them, though!

  • My kids go to a solo practitioner on the corner of 910 & Rte 19. Her contact info is

    Dr Meena Adhar

She is awesome - takes calls any time of day no matter how dumb & will usually see you right away. I rarely have to wait nor do I have to make an appt months in advance.  She's very caring.   I went to West Penn too - the peds that round there are nice - Dr. Adhar doesn't round there just so you know but its not a huge deal.

  • We see Pediatric Alliance North Hills Division - Dr.'s Donnely, Kauffer, and Hyde.  I like them all.  They have offices in Cranberry and at North Hills Passavant professional building.  They offer free Expectant Parent Orientations once a month or so.  It is free, and I got a free book on basic childcare that was actually pretty helpful.  (The book was not advocating a particular parenting style...it just gave information and situations ranging from "This is normal...do not fret."  To  "Put down the book and proceed to the hospital immediately.")

ETA:  Oh, and I was way less stressed when I remembered that I could break up with a doctor if we didn't click.  You'll see a lot of your doctor for the first year, but if you don't mesh well, you can simply seek out a new practice then.  And by then you'll know your baby and you'll know what your issues are and what is important to you as a parent.

  • We also go to this practice.  I picked it because of the location in Oakland/Shadyside (closer to work and daycare).  We have recently started going to the Wexford location (closer to home) I love Dr. Turzai.  She had three boys of her own and relates so well to my son.  I have seen everyone else except Dr. Butler (not on purpose).  My sister has her kids see him exclusively and LOVES him. As a side note they also are sometimes the Docs at Children's Express Care in Wexford.  They also have a lactation consultant at the Oakland location in case that is important to you.  Good luck!!

  • Pediatric Alliance Northland Division is who the girls see. We moved more north when Olivia was 3 months old, but we continued to go there because we love all the doctors in that practice.
