Vent, and would this be weird? (baby name related)

So, last night we were talking about baby names again. We decided that while we both love the name Finnegan/Finn for a boy, we ultimately prefer the way Kieran sounds with our last name and we still love that one. So a boy will be Kieran John. Great!

Then, DH admits that he doesn't like the middle name we've had picked out for a girl (picked it before we started TTC #1, so 2.5-3 years ago). He is still ok with the first name - Clare - but doesn't like Quinn as we know more male Quinns now and he doesn't like androgynous names, apparently even as a MN.

The problem lies in the fact that we have COMPLETELY different taste in girls' names. We have a whole list of boys names we both like, but Clare has been the only girls' name we have ever agreed on. I blurted out Quinn right after we agreed on Clare and we both liked it, so it stuck. MN for boys are family names (easy!) but we don't like any of the girl options, especially with Clare.

So... Nymbler just came up with Noelle. I really like it, but I have some reservations - is it cliche in any way to use Noelle for a December baby? Is it weird to use it if baby comes after her due date (12/31) and is a January baby? Am I overthinking the meaning and we should just use it if we like it? Why am I even bothering, when I'm almost guaranteed that DH won't like it since I do?

Ugh.

  • First - same conundrum we had with boys for baby #2. We could not agree on anything!

Second - meh, if you love the name GO FOR IT! Kind of a little bit reminds of of xmas b/c he/she will be a holiday time baby.... but it's a beautiful name!  And for a MN who cares! so Clare Noelle would be her name? I like the sound of that!

  • Kieran John sounds good! And I like Clare Noelle, too! Doesn't matter when the baby is born. If you like it, that's all that matters. As Michele said, it's a MN! :)

  • Weekend brought more indecision... ha.

We're both struggling to find a name we "love." I think part of the issue is that we've picked DS's and the potential DS2's middle names from family tradition, so no thought was required.

DH admitted that he doesn't love anything. Last night he said I should just pick, haha. The more names I think of, the more I realize that the ones I like all have 2 syllables. I think my favorites right now (in alphabetical, not preferential, order) are

    Clare Aileen
    Clare Elise
    Clare Noelle

We both like all the names, but we'll keep looking and at worst go to the hospital with a short list. And you ladies are right, it's just a middle name! So I'm trying not to stress too much.

Thanks for letting me rant :)

  • You've got time still. Sounds like the first name is pretty set though. The right middle name will come. Have you yelled the choices yet? Or, called them in sequence with T's name? I know once we found the names we loved, it just clicked.
