Napa/Sonoma-Hiring a Driver?
We are staying in Petaluma and planning on hitting up wineries in Napa and Sonoma and having lunch in Yountville.
I've heard that hiring a driver is the way to go, but it is costly.
Has anyone used one? Is it worth it?

We are already booked with them for September 2013. Minimum of 4 hours at $45 an hour. They drive your rental car. I don't think it is that bad...cheaper than a DUI....at the same time, there are four of us going, so the cost is being split among more people that just 2. They are super helpful - you might be able to tag along with another couple (if it is just you and one other person) that they are already servicing.
Thanks! That's a great recommendation.
We are about 5 days away from when we need it, so they might be booked, but I emailed anyways!
What other wineries are you planning on going to? We have Chimney Rock and Rutherford set up (we know someone who works there).
Well, again, our trip isn't until September 2013 (we will be there one year from now!!) but we plan to do Frank Family (we have heard over and over again about how fantastic this winery is!), Rombauer (a personal favorite of mine), Sterling (I think this is the winery with the gondola ride up the mountain, apparently it is quite busy but I really want to ride the gondola), and perhaps the newest Del Dotto cave.
This year, Coppola (off of the 101, so somewhat far away from Napa) is doing a breakfast and lunch, half day Italian festival that I REALLY hope they offer next year because we will want to do that as well!
What restaurants do you plan to go to? Please write a trip review when you get back so I can steal your ideas.
We are only going to be there for 2 days, so it's a quick trip.
On Saturday, we are driving up from San Francisco and we are going to hit up some breweries for my husband. Lagunitas and Russian River are somewhere up there.
Haven't decided on a dinner place yet, but probably grab a bite in Petaluma or Sonoma.
Then on Sunday we are doing lunch at Bottega in Yountville. Originally we had planned to do dinner there, but with our accomodations being almost an hour away, we decided to tie it into our wine tastings.
Then dinner on Sunday is TBD.
I'll fill you in once we get back!
Thanks for the recommendations!
We are back!
We had a great trip, but it was really quick! On Saturday, we packed up our place in SF and drove up the coast to Santa Rosa. Along the way, we stopped at a cute little Oyster shack and slurped down some Oysters. It was called The Marshall Store in Marshall, CA off of Hwy 1. Awesome view, great oysters and an all around great start to our adventure!
Then we drove up to Santa Rosa and stopped at Russian River Brewing company because H loves craft beers and they have some of the best and we cannot get them in Chicago.
Afterward, we drove down to Petaluma (where we were staying) and checked into our place. Then quickly headed out to Lagunitas brewing (obviously breweries were in place of wine this day).
Sunday we hit up Chimney Rock and Rutherford Hill (we had free tastings and tours because of a friend who works there). Then we went to Bottega in Yountville, hit up Napastyle and Bouchon Bakery. Walked around the shops and then headed out. We decided to hit up Sonoma, but actually just drove into town and went to a tasting room for Adobe Road Winery and met the nicest people. Then headed to Sigh which is a tasting room for all sparkling wines. Then we had dinner at The Girl and the Fig. A light dinner because we were still full from lunch.
We didn't get a driver and we didn't hit up as many wineries as we would have liked, but overall, we had a great time.
