Voter ID again

Just to bring this back to light I was listening to NPR on my drive in this morning, I also got my postcard notifying us of the new law and how to obtain an ID.
I'm still in favor of voter IDs, but I have to amend saying that this is not the right time. This election is the big one, every four years, and I think it should be a transition process for people that happens over the next 3 years. This way people have ample time and availability. Everyone's vote counts, and perhaps we all just get used to showing ID then if you don't have it you have until the next year. It works out in my mind, makes total sense, but I feel in my gut I'm missing something.
