....are already on my mind.
Anyone already start Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanza/Secular shopping (besides Michele, since she's so crafty!)?
Have wish lists? (for you, DH/SO, or kids!)
Re: The holidays
hehe! I actually haven't started a whole lot yet, but the lists are forming. I picked up a few puppets for the kids so far but that's it.
Our budget is tight this year so I need to focus in on one wow thing for each kid. I think for M that might be a doll house (b/c I have room for that, ugh) as she was loving my niece's old doll house and accessories this past weekend. But I'm stumped for Ben. he's already getting a Vtech tablet from my parents, so I have to figure something out. It will be a small xmas here for sure, but hopefully things that mean a lot to them.

Wish list? Hmm...
KIDS: dress up box! I want to pick up different hats, masks and accessories, not necessarily full outfits that they'll outgrow too quickly. Most of these items will hopefully be purchased in the days after Halloween when costumes go on clearance.
DH: his birthday is only a couple weeks before Christmas, so it's always a bit difficult to plan for him. He needs new t-shirts to replace the threadbare freebies he's gotten at work or has had in his wardrobe since college. I'm waiting on a good deal from LLBean, since the quality is great and DH loves their pima cotton shirts. As for something fun for him? I'm sure there's a video game that he'd want...
ME: a GC for Dress Barn, to be perfectly honest. I need to update my wardrobe with pieces that fit me, and I can do some damage in there! And, for more casual clothes, I'd love some pieces from LLBean for me. I'd also like to get a new sewing machine, since it's hard to learn how to sew on a machine that doesn't work, and I want to learn!!!
Our budget is going to be tighter this year than usual, too, Michele. And that's saying something because we keep really small budgets for Christmas in general. I try to think of it as a little challenge... not worry about the price and put more thought into a great, even if small, gift.
Alicia - think of the sewing machine as an investment in kids' costumes! You can make tons of stuff super cheap. And it's a good way to start learning the basics of sewing clothes and they won't notice any small imperfections.
Amy - I haven't done layaway before, but I think it's a great idea! I've heard that some stores charge a fee for doing it and others don't, so you might shop around and see who has the best layaway plans
My wish list (as un-fun as this sounds!) consists of baby stuff. DS was born in May and we never needed things like a carseat cover for the winter, but this time we'll have a newborn in January! I also need to decide on a double stroller or sit n stand of some sort.
DH's list is very short so far - a couple of CDs (that I'll probably pick up for his bday in a couple of weeks) and some new slippers from LLBean. His list has got to get a lot longer because my family buys him gifts and I need something to give him myself!
DS - mostly toys. He has a play kitchen, but no pots/pans or food of any variety. He's not bothered by stacking his dominos in the oven, but eventually I think he'll figure out that the kitchen is like our big kitchen and play food, etc would be fun. Art supplies are also in order. He's starting to take more of an interest in coloring.
I have been thinking about buying one gift a week until I am done starting now.
We are on a tight budget this year between just having the wedding and now trying to buy a home so I'm really working on catching sales (like upcoming columbus day sales and stuff) and putting stuff away for people when I see something that catches my eye.
For coworkers and what not I am doing handmade gifts, things like flavored olive oils or vanilla bean sugar or homemade vanilal that are all over pinterest.
Now I'm debating a nice play kitchen for a joint gift for the kids, then doll house and tablet (vtech one) for Ben. Santa could bring the dollhouse and tablet, grandma & grandpa could do the kitchen? The 'kitchen' they have is a little mermaid one from my niece and it's not realistic at all, and they LOVE the realistic ones at daycare.
I don't know. They have everything already!!!
For me - i want gift cards to Athleta. Like a million of them ;-) I could buy almost everything in that damn catalog, assuming I get skinnier, that is. And ditto Dress barn, and Kohls. I'm in between sizes and if I actually get off my arse and start losing the rest o this weight, I will have nothing that fits!

I haven't even thought of shopping yet, but I typically don't until after thanksgiving.
For the kids, I'm thinking maybe some dump trucks they both loved playing with them at the playground the other day, they need some food for their kitchen and I'm also thinking of a little table & chair set for them to use. Not sure what will come from us/Santa and what I'll have other family members buy.
No idea what to do for DH. For me, I would love an ipod touch.
Michele-you should get a kitchen. Mine got one for their birthday a couple of months ago and they love it!
oooh thanks for the tip on the Xmas tree shop pans.... I may have to look!
yeah, while Ben is already 4 he LOVES playing kitchen. So I think that might be the big gift!!!

Oooo, thanks! There's one near work and one right near my house. Hopefully one of them will have it!
