Command letter?

Well, it finally happened. My husband recently left for basic training.  This is my first experience with anything military, so I don't know much at all yet.  I do realize that it may be several weeks before I hear from him again but of course, I would like to send him letters in the meantime.  While searching the web looking for details on how to find out where exactly to send the letters, I came accross a couple of sites that mention waiting for a command letter.  I couldn't seem to find anything that said how long it can actually take to receive said letter, so I'm wondering if any of you may shed some light on me?  I realize these things take time, but I'm just wondering what a ballpark time frame may be.  Thanks very much in advance.

So happy to be married to my best friend.

Re: Command letter?

  • When I was in Basic, I was in Reception for a week and then went to my training unit.  I was at my training unit for almost a week before we addressed the letters for our command letter that included dates for graduation, our address and what our families could expect as far as hearing from us and rules for mail and packages.
