Gum Cracking

What is a nice way to tell a co-worker to please stop cracking their gum ?

I have mentioned to her once that it is annoying but she still cracks away.

Re: Gum Cracking

  • She might not realize she is doing it - that happens a lot with habits.  I play with my hair ALL the time, so much that I don't realize I'm doing it.

I'd nicely mention it again, and then add something like "Please let me know if I have any weird habits that bug you too!"  That establishes that the street goes both ways with potentially annoying habits!

  • I think the PP gave you some good advie. Perhaps she really isn't aware of it, it happens. But I would definitely mention it again!
  • I agree with what pp's have said. I would also add make sure it's at a calm time for yourself. Not right after she cracks her gums.

  • the guy who sits in the cubicle behind me is a whistler.  like, he'll bust out at random times to whistle for about 10seconds and since it's quiet in the office I usually jump when he starts.  and didn't realize i HATE whistlers.

I want to say something, but I'm new and don't want to be that person that complains right off the bat.

  • Tell her the cracking is distracting.  If she doesn't stop, can you move your desk?
