(#) Water Wednesday

Hey ladies... just a reminder, are you drinking your water?  WW recommends 6 8-oz servings a day; other plans recommend half your number of pounds in ounces (so if you weigh 200, you drink 100 oz of water).

b: scrambled egg / egg white.  Skim milk.

s: 100-calorie pack (ugh).  I gave blood, and they made me eat something.  probably a good idea, but I didn't really want it!

l: going out to a crepe place with a friend (scheduled pre-ww).  will make the healthiest choice I can.  I'm walking over a mile to get there, though!

s: skim latte, apple.

d: taco soup and salad

B/c of giving blood, I can't do any strenuous exercise for 24 hours -- so no swimming in the morning.  Boo.  But I'll do something tomorrow night, either swim or yoga.

How about you?

Re: (#) Water Wednesday

  • Confession:  I make bad food choices consistently. I do stay within my calorie alottment for the day, so that's something, right?

I went to the gym last night and did a mix of cardio and weights.  I think I'll go for arobics tonight.

  • I'm curious. ?What reason do they give for drinking water? ?I know it was going around for a long time as a general health recommendation, but that's recently been fairly well debunked. ?But I don't know anything about if it's still a valid rec for weight loss. ?Do they go into the science and studies behind their recs? ?Do they tell you the whys of anything? ?Pretty much everything you all have shared about their plans makes sense, especially that core program you were discussing, so I'm just curious how they present it.

  • I don't drink all the recommended water, and I probably never will.  I drink too much diet soda, but I'm not giving it up.  I am much better about drinking water when I work out regularly because I - shockingly - get more thirsty.  I did, however, take my multivitamin and my calcium tablets today. This is a big step for me. Just FYI: generic Flinstones vitamins taste much better than actual Flinstones vitamins.  I am finding this out the hard way.

I swam 15 laps last night. Woot!  I have to start swimming faster because I would only be able to add about 2 laps during the time the pool is open. I did 30 minutes elliptical and my light weights this morning.  My H even did a few minutes on the elliptical.  While he was in the fitness room, he stepped on the scale and was not happy, so he's going to start doing the program with me.  He won't go to meetings, but we can share materials (and only pay for one).

    B - 2 eggs, 1 ounce mozzarella, 2 crumpets with jam, 2 clementines

S - Kashi honey almond flax bar

L - turkey sandwich (I really don't like bringing sandwiches but was out of ideas for this week)

    S - Stonyfield yogurt

D - turkey fajitas with extra peppers/onions, rice, cheese, homemade guac, but probably no tortillas tonight so I can have more guac.  If you still have leftover Thanksgiving turkey, I highly recommend buying a packet of fajita seasoning and letting the turkey marinade during the day.  Then saute peppers and onions and add the turkey to heat through. YUM!

    D - fudge bar

  • According to my first ww leader, drinking a sf caffenine free soda counts as water but only up to three servings.

So you could have a Sprite Zero and it would count as 12 oz. of water.

  • I went to yoga last night, and today is my "off" day for exercise. I need to go running tomorrow.

B: 2 cups of coffee (yeah, I know)

L: Turkey sandwich on whole wheat, small serving of sun chips, apple, small piece of chocolate

D: Mushroom soup with Tuscan bread

Dessert: Chocolate-covered frozen banana (only 130 calories and it counts as a fruit serving!)

Sprite Zero is amateur hour.  Diet Dr Pepper is where it's at, but I do have a truly bizarre love of Fresca as well.

Yes, but without the weird Flintstone-y taste, do you still get the same sense of nostalgia?

    B - oatmeal, frozen grapes

    S1: green pepper w/ hummus

    L: low-sodium chicken & rice soup

    S2: apple, cheesestick

D: dunno yet... need to stop by the grocery store on the way home.

Am hitting up the gym later for some ellipticalling!

  • sibil I think one of the things "they" say about water relating to weight loss is that often the human mind substitutes the thirst sensation for hunger... so when you feel hungry you might actually just be parched.

Plus I think maybe it helps fill you up a little if you drink a glass before eating so you feel full faster from food (alliteration! ha)

Ahh! But Dr. Pepper has caffeine in it or do they make a diet/caffeine free?

    I really like the zeros!

But the whole point of any non-Fresca sodas is to supply caffeine!  Reading summary judgment motions all day ain't exactly invigorating.

  • I'm going to say what I had yesterday, since I'm not much of a planner.

    B: a skim coffee frap

L: half brown rice, half spinach chipotle dish with tofu, tomatoes, avocado, and a little cheese from one of my favorite organic restaurants.

    S: leftovers from lunch

D: a turkey sandwich (we get home late from work, so dinner is usually light)

  • It is freezing in my house, so I don't want to drink water because it will make me cold.  For whatever reason, our heater really only seems to work in our kitchen, so I don't bother turning it on because I still end up cold.

Breakfast I had yogurt and a piece of bread with a little butter.

I have no idea what I will eat for the rest of the day.  We still have turkey left from Thanksgiving but I think I will gag if I have to eat it one more time.  There is chicken in the freezer, but that is too much like turkey.

I need to go to the store later today.  Maybe I will get pork chops.  We have squash, so I could do a nice side dish with that for dinner.

Seriously, I cannot recommend turkey fajitas highly enough.  My family has been doing it for years because my parents didn't want to throw out tons of food they'd paid for, but they had four whiny children who were sick of turkey.

Not only does it really just taste generally like fajitas more than turkey, but you top it with a little cheese and guac, and you'll completely forget you're eating turkey.

  • :::dipping my toe in:::

Between now and January is insanelycrazysuperbusy for me, so I really don't see how I'll be able to get into an exercise routine until then, but I can at least keep a better eye on what I eat. Mostly that means not eating out, which is doubly good 'cause it leaves more mortgage money. I've needed to loose at least 30lbs for a year and meant to do so by this Christmas, which clearly did not happen.

Water - I'm very prone to UTIs, which flare up if I don't have 32 ounces daily on a regular basis. Which reminds me I'm getting behind again.

    Today:

Breakfast - oatmeal (good for the budget and waistline)

Lunch - I brought whole wheat spaghetti, but I may be going to Round Table for free. If so, I'll do a big salad and only a slice or two of pizza.

Dinner - I was thinking about picking up sausages, but I think I'll do fish instead. And a big salad, we have CSA leftovers that need using.

Snacks - I need to work on, I'm not much of a snacker and tend to reach for a chocolate late in the day. I'll see what we have in the fridge for tomorrow.

Beverages - alcohol is a big part of my weight/money cutback too. I got some vitamin water and have been good so far this week.

I'm so behind on projects at home, time has been filing up quickly in the evenings, but I'll see if we can get a Wii Tennis game in. Or maybe even a walk.

We did turkey tacos Monday night and they were yummy. Not exactly like chicken, but the cumin and paprika covered up most the poultry taste. We were out of salsa/salsa ingredients and Mr.P doesn't eat guac or sour cream, so adding any of those would cover it up even more.

  • B: slept through it--yay for a buffer day to get things done (and sleep) before I go away.

L: Chipotle burrito bol - 1/2 rice serving, black beans, tomato salsa, green salsa, 1/2 sour cream serving, guacamole, lettuce

    S: 2 fun size Snickers

    D: No idea yet

So far, not so bad!  I walked almost a mile yesterday, so yay!

  • I am getting about 6 glasses of water in a day, which is great since I drank maybe 1 glass prior.  I worked out back, shoulders and tris yesterday and today is my day off from the gym completely (yea!).

meal #1: protein shake, 3 rice cakes

    meal #2: chicken and rice

    meal #3: chicken and veggies

meal #4: most likely steak and veggies

meal #5: protein shake and 8 cashews (yes, I count them out).

    Me too.

Today I ate a bowl of cereal with 1% milk, two pieces of wheat toast with butter and two chocolate chip cookies. It's 2:40 and I am starving, but there's no healthy food in the house.

I used to tease H over counting his cashews until I jumped on the diet train.  It is so easy to overeat those!

I have a huge, Costco-sized container of cashews in the back of my car. Those things are dangerous!

  • I'm drinking my water but I always drink lots of water. Sometimes I think I drink so much I am immune to its weight loss benefits!

As for eating don't ask!  I got busy this morning and skipped breakfast. So I had an early lunch of leftover roast & potatos. Had a Zero candy bar for a snack early afternoon and some chips around a half hour ago.

But I am making blackened chicken salad for dinner and will use my fat free salad dressing!

I really can't wait to get to the grocery on Friday and get some healthy foods in here. And I finish up finals tomorrow so I will be home & can cook more over the break! And maybe even exercise!!!

Hey, me too! Sad I've even been to a urologist about it. I get them less frequently when I drink less caffeine/alcohol, but giving those up ain't happenin' so I try to drink water to make up for it.

  • Im pretty good about drinking water. I am constantly filling up my water bottle at work and probably drink about 70 oz at work and another 10-20 at home. I pee a lot Wink

Today has not been the best day, but oh well.

Breakfast: Breakfast burrito (just eggs and tortilla) and banana

Lunch: Granola bar and bean  rice burrito

    Snack: Cookies (bad me)

    Dinner: not sure...

  • Oh, as for water I, I drink the 8 cups Spark People recommends.  Usually I drink it in the form of iced tea at least once a day (SP says that counts).  I do iced tea with breakfast (2 cups), three cups with lunch, sometimes 2 in the afternoon, and at least 2 or 4 with dinner.  I always at least get 9.
