Re: walking shoes

  • sorry no other suggestions as Teaghan wears stride ride but did you look at the outlets. We just got Teaghan a new pair of sneakers from the stride rite outlet for 20.00, much cheaper than the 60.00 we paid for her original pair of walking shoes.

  • We ended up getting M a pair of Nike sneakers.  DH used to sell shoes back in the day and they ended up being great.  We went to go to a store in Poughkeepsie that sold Stride Rite that was recommended by many and it had closed a month before we got there :(

  • Stride rites really are great and IMO worth the price. When they first start walking the need a really good quality shoe with support and the stride rites are great for that. I would buy a few pairs and once he becomes a great walker in a few months you can start buying cheaper shoes elsewhere.

They have BOGO half off coupons everywhere....try to find one.

Ditto. All of my kiddos wear Stride Rite. Ryan just got her first pair of non-Stride Rite shoes last year right before she turned 4 (aside from dress shoes that she would only wear once or twice.)

  • Stride rite is the place to go for their first shoes. We did D's first pair there then we have done Pumas ever since. But they need a good beginner walker shoe to help them learn to walk better. You'll probably get a little better price in the Jersey outlets.
  • I'm a stride rite believer too...Usually stock up when I'm at Woodbury Commons...totally worth it :)

  • Payless Smart Kids is actually Stride Rite's brand.

We used Pumas and DCs as first shoes for J, then converses

C- has a pair from Argentina that are from a children's shoe store there, my mom picked them up because I wanted leather white first sneakers for her.

She wears cute shoes, and converses mainly.

  • A was a late walker (15 months). We had bought him a pair of shoes from Target before he started walking. Once he started walking we went into Stride Rite for shoes. I agree they are expensive but we found a pair on their clearance rack for $20-25 originally $50.

You could also try Nike outlet at Woodbury. We bought A a pair at the beginning of the summer from there, only $20

  • We buy Stride Rite for C.  I can never find anything in the outlet I like so we just get her measured.  I order Stride Rite off of Shoebuy and can usually find a 20% off code.  I order a few to try on and ship the ones I don't like back for free.
  • I just bought Joe's first shoes at Stride-Rite last week. I tried googling coupons, but ccould only find expired ones- missed it by a few days. They have sales going on in the store though and free shipping online above $75. There's also a decent rewards program to earn coupons
