I am still trying to wrap my head around everything that happened surrounding his birth. It all happened very quickly. They were already taking the baby out when my husband was able to get in the room. I've actually tried multiple times to write a post and had to keep starting over.
At my 37 week appointment (Sept 5 @ 3:45 pm), my blood pressure was still slightly elevated so my doctor sent me to L&D right after the appointment. We had nothing packed and I thought I was in for a long induction so we went to our house which is right next to the hospital. I guess we were there a little too long though because the doctor called asking where I was. I got to L&D around 6 pm. It took about 45 minutes to get a L&D room. I got the cervadil inserted around 8 pm, but after that I was still only 1 cm dilated. Around 10:30 pm, My blood work came back that my platelets were at a dangerous level, so it was deemed best for me to have a c-section that night. I initially fought this, wanting to try to give my body a chance, but with the platelet count so low and me with essentially no progress they were worried that a prolonged induction would wind up being dangerous and having a c-section later would be even more dangerous. They were worried that I would bleed out. I was super worried that my baby would have to go to the NICU because he was only 37 weeks. I had to have general anesthesia instead of an epidural because of my platelet count, so I did not get to hear his first cries or be one of the first to see him. Luckily, I was the first to officially hold him and he did not need to go to the NICU.
I was on magnesium for the next two days as they tried to get my platelet count to go up. Magnesium is awful. I felt like I was in a haze. I'd be trying to talk to people and fall asleep. They actually said I was more alert than most on it. At one point, I was close to needing a platelet transfusion, luckily I did not have to have one. Finally on Friday evening I was taken off the magnesium and sent to the post partum ward and got to eat real food (was on fluids the other days) and get the catheter taken out. We finally got to go home Monday afternoon after my platelet count returned to normal.
I am very happy to report that even with all of my problems, our son was perfectly healthy. I can't imagine having to go through all of that and not have had a healthy baby. He did have slight jaundice while we were in the hospital but nothing to where he needed the lights or anything, just more fluids. I am also having to pump around the clock because 37 weekers are not efficient enough suckers. But he gained weight at his 2 week appointment (now is 7 pounds 10 ounces) and is so far overall a great, laid back baby. We are truly blessed.

What a sweet boy! Congrats!
Sorry to hear about your experience though. Glad you both came out just fine!
He is such a cutie! Congratulations on the healthy baby boy. I'm sure it was disappointing for you to not get the birth experience you were hoping for/expecting. In the end it sounds like the best decision was made and all is ok now. I hope that you're able to heal well physically and emotionally. A lot of people seem to just push past the feelings you need to go through when something doesn't happen like you thought. It doesn't mean you aren't happy with your baby or the outcome, it just means you have to grieve like you would with anything else
he really is very cute and Im so happy for you
