Good places to travel to in Florida?
Hubby and I want to take a trip to Florida sometime, and we need city ideas. What places are nice? We don't want to go to Disney World or anything like that.
Re: Good places to travel to in Florida?
You mention cities vs just places so I guess you are not looking for an eco destination. It really depends on the types of things you like to do: foodie, naturelovers, city experiences, history, adventure, leisure...
The first city that comes to mind is Saint Augustine if you like history - old Spanish Fort, Oldest City is US. Beach nearby.
Fort Myers is interesting - Sanibel Island nearby for nice shelling beaches, Edison Museum, near an entrance to the Everglades for airboat rides, etc.
For beaches my preference is the panhandle gulf coast beaches. White sugar sand, not as built up but depends on where.
If you like springs, canoeing, nature there are a lot of things around the Orlando area.
I have not done the Miami So Beach Area.
The Keys are great for boating, fishing and diving.
FTL/Miami is great for shopping, restaurants, clubs, etc. big city type stuff + good beaches. golf, nice spas, hotels, etc.
and there is the National Forest in North FL. +Ocala has horse farms.
My heart is as open as the sky.
Read about it on the blog
2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
I love Palm Beach. The Breakers Hotel is gorgeous and there's really awesome shopping (Worth Avenue) and fantastic restaurants there. Here are some recs from my friend's blog: http://aquadimaredreams.blogspot.ca/p/palm-beach-restaurant-nightlife-recs.html
Miami Beach is great too. The Eden Roc hotel is fabulous, right on a gorgeous strip of beach with an awesome pool area. It's about a 30 min walk (along the boardwalk) to South Beach where all the action is - nightlife, restaurants, shopping...
Also, alot of people like the Keys, we're finally going in November, yay!
Sebastian inlet is super gorgeous!
And make sure to eat at Dos Amigos!
Best mexican food ever! (And adult icee nights!)
We LOVE the South Gulf Coast - Fort Myers, Captiva, Sanibel, Marco, Naples, etc. There is plenty to do - beaches, shopping, eating, drinking, etc.
We're FINALLY getting to Key West this January,I have a sneaking suspicion that it's going to become one of our fav destinations!
I think Miami is the place. In Miami, you have the best of both worlds, beach and peace or city and party. You can enjoy city life and party in Miami; Downtown is a great option; and spend some time at the Keys for all the beach and tranquility you can get. If you want to stay in downtown, the Hampton Inn & Suites Miami Brickell Downtown (http://www.hamptoninnmiamibrickell.com/) is a great hotel by Mary Brickell Village and a Metromover/Metrorail station that allow you to enjoy all of Miami.
