Taos, NM in 2 weeks

My husband and I are traveling to Taos, NM in two weeks for a quick fall trip.  We're excited about going and we've done some research; we have some ideas in mind for how we can make this a good one.  If anyone has ever been and have some must-do information, please share.  Any information you have will be helpful!

  • I love Taos! My mom lives there so I've been a few times. Visit the Taos Pueblo if you can. There is an area with lots of cool local shops and places to eat. Michael's Kitchen is FANTASTIC for breakfast! Don't know if the Taos ski valley is open this time of year but that's a neat drive and the ski valley is beautiful. Drive to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. Honestly, there's not a ton of stuff to do there that I can remember. Will you be visiting anywhere else? We always end up driving to Albuquerque to do stuff as well (but that's a few hours away). My mom used to live there so she knows that area well. Have a great trip! Message me if you have more questions. I can always ask my mom. :)

  • There is an old adobe church in Taos built in 1710 to 1801 that is worth seeing. It is a recognizable symbol/place of Taos.

Santa Fe is even closer than Albuquerque and has a lot of interseting shops and historical places. The Native Americans have jewelry for sale on the sidewalk in the square. You get good prices when you buy from them. In Santa Fe, I recommend the following restuarants that are DHs favorites (he's a foodie): Harrys Roadhouse (bfast, dinner), Marias (drinks so lunch or dinner), Tecalote (bfast - get the bakery basket), Tomasitas (lunch, dinner).Good for a day trip. We were there Labor day weekend and discovered that there is a band playing in the bar at La Fonda hotel.

If you make it to Albuquerque then I like the jewelry (and prices) at Indian Treasures in Old Town.We like to eat at Monroes near Old Town.

Also Bandelier National Monument - pueblos is also interesting and a beautiful drive. I have enjoyed shopping in Taos too. My MIL used to go to Angel Fire (1 hour east) and I went to visit her there.

  • I was there in the winter mainly for skiing so I did not get to do the other outdoorsy things but it looks like a great place for some awesome hiking.  I do second the Rio Grande Bridge and the Pueblos.  La Cueva Cafe in downtown Taos was an amazing find that the locals directed us to so you should check that out!
